Lorraine Y. (Née Desrosiers) Théroux, a longtime resident of Fall River, MA and Portsmouth, RI, passed away on March 4, 2026 at Catholic memorial Home of Fall River. She was born on August 26, daughter of Phillippe and Yvonne (née Dumont) Desrosiers.

At fifteen she entered the “Grey Nuns” (Les Soeurs de la Charité de Québec in Québec). Lorraine served the Sisters faithfully and lovingly teaching in Canada as well as at their Mission in Lowell, MA.

After leaving the Sisters, she returned to her family in Fall River. She began a longtime teaching career and it was there, at Ste. Anne School, in Fall River, teaching Third Grade, that she met Bernard. The two were united in marriage on July 4th,1956, at Ste Anne, and throughout their lives together they were dedicated to one another, husband and wife for over 62 years, at the time of Bernard’s death.

It was in 1966, that Lorraine returned to the classroom at Ste. Anne’s and taught for the next seventeen years. She then was called upon to teach at Jesus Savior in Newport, Rhode Island, and finally to join the faculty of St Jean Baptiste, in Fall River.

Altogether, Lorraine taught Kindergarten, First and Third Grade for over Thirty-Seven years.

Lorraine was always at “Deacon Bernie’s” side for his thirty-year career of service for the Rhode Island Veteran’s Home. And in her “retirement,” she worked at Magoni’s Restaurant as a “Hostess” into her eighties. She, like Bernard, loved the French language and culture, and many a person heard her sing the French, Canadian and American National anthems along the years.

Lorraine was always there to assist Bernard in all his endeavors, whether it was helping with hosting the French Musical Hour, heard Sunday afternoons for over 45 years; assisting as his co-host for a French Talk Show on WGBH TV, Boston; or in the house kitchen preparing meals for a “ship load” of French sailors at port in Newport or New Bedford. Lorraine was up for every adventure and loved every one of them.

Lorraine is survived by her children Roger T. Théroux, Marc A. (Jennifer) Théroux, Diane T. (Michael) Bérubé, and Reverend Denis B. Théroux, and her grandchildren, Neil (Emily) Berube, Paul (Joanne) Théroux, Michele (Steve) Whitford, and Benjamin Théroux, and her great-grandchildren, Nolan, Landon, Wyatt, Evan, and Jolene Théroux, as well as Lucas, and Lydia Whitford and Timothy and Mary Rose Bérubé, and Shiloh Théroux.
