Lou Etta Gunnet

York New Salem - Lou Etta B. (Miller) Gunnet, age 86, of York New Salem, passed away on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at SpiriTrust Lutheran, The Village at Sprenkle Drive in York. She was the loving wife of Ronald E. Gunnet; together they shared over 62 years of marriage.

Lou Etta was born in Gettysburg on January 6, 1935 and was the daughter of the late Harvey E. Miller and Minnie S. (Byers) Miller. She graduated from Littlestown High School class of 1953 and earned B.S. in Education from Millersville University. She taught elementary school at the Scotland School for Veterans in Scotland PA for 2 years prior to teaching in the Spring Grove Area School District. She spent most of her career teaching 4th grade at York New Salem Elementary School for over 31 years and retired after 37 years of teaching. She was an avid bowler and was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stoverstown. She was active in the church and enjoyed singing in the choir, participating in the candy making group as well as serving on other committees. She had fond memories of a six-week cruise/trip she took to Europe when she was younger and loved to share her stories with her family.

In addition to her husband Ronald, she is survived by her children Ronda Abel and her husband David of York and Eric Gunnet and his wife Jennifer of York; her grandchildren Jonathan and Jordyn Abel and Nathaniel and Zachary Gunnet and her great-grandchildren Elijah and Sophia. She is also survived by her brother Gene Miller, her sister Frances Snyder and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Harvey Miller II and Ray Miller.

A funeral service in celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, July 18, 2021, at 2:00PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 4767 Lehman Rd. Spring Grove PA 17362 with Rev. Dr. Bradley Dayett officiating. She will be laid to rest following the service at St. Paul Union Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Sunday from 1:00PM - 2:00PM at the church. Funeral services are under the direction of Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service Inc. of Spring Grove.
