James Herbert "Jim" Patterson

James Herbert Patterson, age 84, Mechanicsburg PA, passed away peacefully at home on February 21, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on April 2, 1941 in Gettysburg PA, to the Hebert and Naomi (Basehoar) Patterson, he lived a life defined by kindness, dedication, faith, and humor.

Jim graduated from Littlestown High School and went on to Randolph-Macon Military Academy. He worked at the family business, Patterson's Meat Market, and later at Nabisco Foods for 25 years until he retired. Jim touched countless lives and earned the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends alike.

Above all, Jim cherished family. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Ruggles Patterson of 62 years; his son, Jeff (Karen) Patterson of Ocala FL; his daughter Laurie (Brian) Kapp; and 2 grandchildren, Lauren and Andrew of Mechanicsburg PA. He is also survived by his sister, Elizabeth (Michael) Baley of Mount Joy, PA. Whether gathered around the dinner table, celebrating holidays, or offering quiet support in difficult times, Jim made moments meaningful.

Known for a warm smile, quick wit, generous spirit, steadfast faith, and love of music, Jim found joy in working in his yard and attending Navy and Washington Commanders Football Games. He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. Jim leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and compassion that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers the family kindly request donations be made to Amedisys Hospice, 2708 Commerce Dr., Suite 300, Harrisburg, PA 17110 or to St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, 30 W. Chestnut St., Hanover PA 17331. A celebration of life will be held for the family at a later time.
