Louie Rankin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rose Funeral & Cremation - Broadway on Oct. 14, 2022.
Louie Rankin was born in Knoxville, TN on September 10, 1943. He went home peacefully the early morning of October 10, 2022. Louie was a devoted life long member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #645, and a graduate of Knoxville Catholic High School class of 1962. After studying accounting in business school, Louie started his career at Hamilton National Bank and its successors. He retired from First Tennessee Bank, after 43 years of service. Although partially paralyzed from an accident in his late teens, Louie was always a positive person. Never once did anyone hear him complain of his physical condition. He devoted himself to service to others--always showed concern for others and often donated freely to causes for those less fortunate. A devout Christian, his faith and love in the Lord kept him active in his church and in continuous contact with his many friends, his family, and his extended church and school families through the years. He was grateful that many of his IC family returned those warm feelings of friendship, love and encouragement with cards and notes in recent years as he survived several strokes and heart ailments. Louie was a great storyteller and could keep the family laughing as he related stories from his grandmother, great aunt, and Aunt Aggie about "long gone" family and friends and their late night visits. Maybe his storytelling was just an old Irish tradition, but we loved it and loved him for his sense of humor and his quiet strength.
Louie was preceded in death by his parents Louis A.(Luke) Rankin Sr. and Anna Margaret Corcoran Rankin, brother Dan E. Rankin and beloved Aunt Agnes M. Corcoran. He is survived by nephews Michael J. Rankin, Daniel E. Rankin Jr. and niece Laura A. Rankin (Dexter Hamlett), great nieces and nephew Leah and Lindsay Rankin, Carmen and Ben Hamlett, and numerous other cousins. Special acknowledgement is for beloved Sister-in-law Patricia Roberts Rankin and cousins Tom and Donna Charron, and Paulette and Virgil Corcoran. Visitation will be at Rose Funeral & Cremation-Broadway on Thursday, Oct. 20 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, Oct. 21 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 10:00 AM. Family and friends will meet at 11:30 am October 21, 2022 at Calvary Cemetery for a graveside service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Ladies of Charity Knoxville (www.ladiesofcharityknox.org) or to Knoxville Mobile Meals (www.knoxseniors.org/support-mobile-meals) Online condolences may be extended at www.rosefuneraltn.com

Louis you were our living saint at Immaculate Conception. So hard to lose you, but so grateful that you are in heaven and free--no more crutches--running free. Thank you for your inspiration to all of us and your devotion to God. Your funeral Mass was one of the most holy experiences I have had. God bless you always Louis.
