Louie J. Rouse, Jr., 79, of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025, at the VA Hospital in Muskogee, surrounded by his loving family.
Louie was born on August 9, 1946, in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Louie J. Rouse, Sr. and Marie (Quinton) Rouse. He grew up with a strong sense of duty and family, values that guided his entire life. After graduating from Vian High School, Louie pursued further education at an electronic trade school in California, where he gained skills that would serve him well throughout his professional career.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, Louie was drafted on April 4, 1967, and received an honorable discharge on April 3, 1969, with the rank of Seargent. Louie honorably served his country during the Vietnam War, demonstrating courage and loyalty in every endeavor. His military service instilled in him a lifelong respect for his fellow veterans and a passion for honoring those who served.
Following his service, Louie dedicated over 30 years to the Indian Health Services, where he worked as a Biomedical Engineer and later served as Branch Chief within the Division of Environmental Health. He retired in 2002 after three decades of devoted service, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and leadership.
Louie married the love of his life, Brenda Kay Johnson, on September 17, 1971, in Poteau, Oklahoma. Together they built a home filled with laughter, faith, and love. The couple lived for many years in Blackgum before moving to Fort Gibson in 2020 to be closer to family.
Louie's faith was central to his life. He was a member of Blackgum First Baptist Church before joining Fort Gibson First Baptist Church, where he continued to worship and serve faithfully.
He found joy in simple pleasures, fishing in the pond with his grandkids, tinkering in the garage, and working on cars, especially his favorite truck, Ole Bob. A talented handyman, Louie could fix just about anything. He loved riding with the Patriot Guard Riders, often attending memorial services and participating in rides to Washington, D.C. to honor fellow veterans. Louie also enjoyed time outdoors deer hunting with Brant and Weston, taking the grandkids for golf cart rides, and was proud of his racehorses frequently racing at Blue Ribbon Downs and Will Rogers. Watching his grandchildren grow and participate in their activities brought him endless pride and happiness.
In his early years, Louie cherished memories of growing up in a military family. His father's service inspired his own, and he often shared fond stories and lessons learned from his brothers and sisters. Louie will be remembered for his steadfast love for his family, his humble service to others, and his unwavering faith. His hands built, repaired, and served, but it was his heart, steady and kind, that left the deepest mark on those who knew him.
Louie is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Brenda Rouse of the home; his son, Brant Rouse and daughter-in-law, Jennifer of Fort Gibson; grandchildren, Weston Rouse, Addison Rouse, and Baylor Rouse, all of Fort Gibson; his sister, Shirley Daniel and husband, Paul of Fort Worth, Texas; sister, Frances Spradling of Gore; brother, Jeff Rouse and sister-in-law, Laurie of Welch, Oklahoma; and sister-in-law, Evelyn Rouse of Vian, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louie J. Rouse, Sr. and Marie Quinton Rouse; and by his brother, Mike Rouse.
In lieu of flowers, the Rouse Family would like donations to be made in Louie's name to the First Baptist Church in Fort Gibson at https://fbcftg.churchcenter.com/giving or The Patriot Guard Riders of Oklahoma at https://pgrofok.org/donate/.
A celebration of life for Louie will be held 11:00AM Thursday, November 13, 2025, at the First Baptist Church in Fort Gibson with Pastors Dale Ritter and Logan Lambert officiating.
