Louis Albert Foglia, Jr., 95, of Philadelphia, PA passed away on Monday, August 11, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Philadelphia on February 18, 1930, the son of Clara Foglia (nee DiVece) and Luigi A. Foglia Sr., both proud immigrants who became naturalized U.S. citizens in the early 1940's. Lou joined the US Marine Corps in 1951 and served in the Korean War, serving honorably until discharged in 1953. He was happily married to Mariann Foglia (nee Lepera) in Philadelphia on July 28, 2007.
Louis had a lengthy career as a grocery manager for Valley Fair Enterprises, Penn Fruit and Pantry Pride. He was also a truck driver for Carriage Trade Cleaners and Designs By Lawrence, retiring at the age of 88. Lou loved to write, especially music and poetry, and shared his love of music with his entire family, and loved to play the piano and organ. He was an avid reader and loved doing crossword puzzles, word games, and playing chess. He was proud of his Italian heritage and became fluent in the Italian language after being inspired by visiting his family ancestral home in Giffoni Valle Piana, Italy. He also loved the Phillies and never missed a game.
Lou was a member of Maternity BVM Church in Northeast Philadelphia. He was also a dedicated member of Richmond-Solomon's Lodge No. 3, where he served as lodge musician for over 35 years. He is survived by his wife Mariann, his first wife Sally Cortese (nee Smith), sister Beatrice Rose (nee Foglia) and husband Henry, Brother Anthony, sons Louis Barry and Dennis (Maryhelen), stepdaughter Christine Vargas and husband Ernie, grandchildren Sarahann, Kimberly, Jennifer, Eric Louis and Courtney, step-grandchildren Michael, Bobby, Gio, Mikey and Christine, and 10 great-grandchildren: Cara, James, Ryan, Mia, Olivia, Joshua, Peyton, Madelyn, Leo and Lane, step great grandchild Johnny, and step great great grandchildren Callie, Theo, Harper and Michael. Preceding Louis in death are his parents Luigi and Clara Foglia (nee DiVece), his late wife Viola Foglia (nee Duve), his brothers Generoso and Nicholas, and stepson Robert Rickard.
Visitation will be held on August 18, 2025 from 9:00-10:30am at Galzerano Funeral Home, 9304 Old Bustleton Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19115. A Masonic Funeral Service will be conducted by Louis' lodge brothers. A Catholic funeral mass will follow at 11:00am at the Maternity BVM Church, 9220 Old Bustleton Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19115. Interment will be held at William Penn Cemetery, 13300 Proctor Road, Philadelphia, PA 19116, with Military Honors conducted by the U.S. Marine Corps.
