Louis Lux Galiano, Sr. passed away peacefully on Monday, January 27, 2025 at the age of 87. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joy Galiano, his son, Jerry Michael Galiano, his grandson, Keith Thompson and his sisters, Josephine "Josie" Holley, Genevieve "Genny" Matherne and his parents, Anthony J. and Mary Monistere Galiano.
Louis is survived by his children, Louis Lux Galiano, Jr., Roxanne Tyrney Skal, and Gina Galiano Osborne (Gerald) and his grandchildren, Brandy Fontenot (Tim), Adam Dillon (Madeline Grant), Dawn Dillon, Kasi Yaeger-Ramos (Noel Ramos), Kyle Skal, Anna Hetchler (Jesse), Aubrey Osborne. He is also survived by his great grandchildren, Raigan Bedo, Aiden Bedo, Jack Bedo, Sage Bedo, Oliver Hetchler, Edgar Dillon, Alexis Martin, Mitchell Martin, Mykael Yaeger, Caelob Yaeger, Korvyna Ramos and Aurelia Ramos and great-great grandchild Raelyn Thibodeaux.
He grew up on Frenchman St in New Orleans and enjoyed spending a lot of his summers on his grandfather's strawberry farm in Hammond. His military service was with the Coast Guard. He liked to recall the story of the sights and sounds of his trip through the Panama Canal during his service. He became a radio operator with the Coast Guard and served at the US Custom House in New Orleans. He then joined the New Orleans Fire Department and retired after 21 years of service. During these times he was still a practicing skilled mechanic, both small engine and automobile. He worked carpentry and remodeling. After retirement, he worked for the STP Sheriff's Office at the jail, then moved on to maintenance for the Hilton. He loved football, crawfish and oysters and indulged in them as often as he was able. His highest love was for his family and friends. From his mom and dad and cousins that he grew up with to the latest great-grandchild. Those were what he spoke about the most. He was a devout Catholic and watched mass at St. Louis cathedral on TV every Sunday morning, often reminiscing of how all the fireman and policeman used to go to mass in their dress uniforms at that church. He displayed his faith in his everyday life. He will be sorely and deeply missed.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 West 21st Avenue, Covington, LA on Friday, January 31, 2025 at 2:00 PM with visitation beginning at 12:00 PM until service time. Interment will follow in the Garden of Pines Cemetery, 1400 Columbia Street, Covington, LA.
