Louis "Louie" Hinojosa was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. He joined the US Navy as a 20-year-old and traveled to such faraway places as Okinawa, Hong Kong, Hawaii, Japan, Europe, and the Philippines as part of his twenty-year career proudly serving his country. His specialization was photography in all its forms, and he was deployed on the USS Hancock, USS Benington, and USS Independence aircraft carriers. After retiring from the Navy, he joined the US Postal Service, later returning to the Navy as a civil servant. He has been a resident of Camarillo for over 48 years.
Louis married his wife Jean after a whirlwind four-month courtship. They enjoyed their travels during his military life and as retirees. Together they raised a family of five children. His love of dogs, especially terriers, began at an early age and continued throughout his life. After Louis retired, he loved tending his garden and backyard, producing a lovely yard of fruit trees, flowers, and succulents, and could often be found sitting outside, enjoying the peace and beauty of his surroundings.
Louis is preceded in death by his mother Mary Carbajal Hinojosa Meminger, his father Lawrence Hinojosa, and his sister Carmen Barker.
Louis is survived by his wife of 64 years Jean Ferrer Chavez Hinojosa, son Louis (wife Monica), daughter Felicia Gewerth (husband Ron), son Michael, son Matthew, daughter Lucy Peterschmidt (husband Chris), nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Lawrence Hinojosa, sister Lorraine Collins, his uncle David Hinojosa, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Last, but not least, Louis is survived by his faithful companion: Alfred, his toy Fox Terrier.
A special thank you to Brookhaven Assisted Living in Camarillo, CA and their wonderful, caring staff.
