Louis A. Sande (1933-2024)
Of Troy, Michigan passed away peacefully on January 4, 2024.
Louis, son of Anthony and Josephine Sande, was born April 7, 1933 and grew up in Flushing, New York. After graduating with a bachelor's degree from Fordham University, Lou served his country by enlisting in the Air Force, achieving the rank of Captain before being honorably discharged in 1955. Upon leaving the service, Lou joined General Motors Overseas Operations (GMOO) where he worked for more than 40 years in overseas planning and development. When he retired from GM in 1998, his job title was Vice President, GM Overseas Distribution Corporation. Over the years, his job took him to over 60 countries. Lou and his family moved from New York to Michigan in 1977, when GM headquarters relocated to Detroit.
Lou met the love of his life, Claire, in 1956. They were married in September 1959. This past fall, Lou and Claire celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. His family also has fond memories of Lou and Claire's 60th wedding anniversary spent in Traverse City, Michigan.
In his later years, Lou especially enjoyed playing golf. He was very athletic and played many other sports in his younger days, but golf became his passion after he retired. He also enjoyed reading, horse racing, his favorite movies and watching and rooting for his Detroit area sports teams.
Lou will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Claire Sande, his children, Chris (Margie) Sande, Steve (Avril) Sande, and Jeannine Walsh, and his grandchildren, Marie, Jack and Emily. He was preceded in death by his sister, Janice Launsbach.
Family will receive friends Tuesday, January 9, 2024 from 3 pm to 8 pm at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Road, Troy, MI 48085. A Funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at 10AM with Visitation beginning at 9:30 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 280 E Square Lake Road, Troy, MI 48085. Burial at White Chapel will be private.
