Louis Michael Tansel
July 7, 1944 – October 22, 2025
Louis Michael Tansel, beloved husband, father, brother, and Papa, "Poppy" passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 22, 2025. He was born on July 7, 1944, in Toledo, Ohio, to Joe Louis and Bernadine "Candy" Tansel.
On June 5, 1964, Louis married the love of his life, Janice Loraine Tansel, and together they shared a beautiful life built on faith, love, and family.
A strong man of faith, Louis served for many years as an ordained minister with the United Pentecostal Church International (UPCI) and was a guiding influence in several congregations throughout his ministry. His quiet strength, steadfast devotion, and willingness to serve left a lasting impact on countless lives.
Louis and Jan raised two children, Loraine Michele Collier (Tansel) and Ron Michael Tansel, who, along with their families, were the joy of his life. He was a proud and loving grandfather to eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of whom affectionately knew him as "Pop."
Beyond his ministry, Louis had a deep passion for classic cars and enjoyed restoring, collecting, and sharing that love with his children and grandchildren. He was also an avid gardener and photographer, with a special appreciation for landscapes, plant life, and flowers. Blessed with a true green thumb, he found peace and joy in nurturing beauty from the earth and capturing it through his lens. His enthusiasm for Ohio State was unmatched-though not always shared by his family (with the exception of one loyal granddaughter), it was always respected and admired.
Louis was a man of quiet faith, unwavering integrity, and genuine kindness. He could always be counted on to lend a hand, offer encouragement, or share a word of wisdom.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janice; his parents, Louis and Candy Tansel; and his brothers, John and Terry. He is survived by his brother, Grant, two children, Michele Collier and Ron Tansel (Amy), along with his cherished grandchildren, Austin, Denton (Kassie), Preston (Crystal), Garrett, Maile, Quinn, Noelle, and Thalen; and great-grandchild, Atticus.
Louis will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his legacy of faith, family, and quiet strength will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
