Larry D Foltz, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully at his home in Gladwin, Michigan, on October 20, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on January 16, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan, Larry's life was a testament to service, passion, and love, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those he encountered.
Larry graduated from Clawson High School in 1960 and pursued his passion for justice by obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Detroit Mercy. His commitment to serving the community was evident through his distinguished 30-year career as a police officer with the City of Berkley. Upon retirement, he continued to serve as a bus driver for Bloomfield and Bloomfield Hills for 15 years, where his warm demeanor became a comforting presence to many.
Larry's steadfast belief in Jesus Christ guided every chapter of his life. He found joy and purpose in sharing his faith and lived with the quiet confidence of one who knew his salvation was secure. While his passing leaves a deep ache in the hearts of those who loved him, his family finds peace in knowing he is now in the loving arms of his Heavenly Father, rejoicing in eternal life.
Music played a harmonious thread throughout Larry's life. He was a trumpet player in high school and continued to use his musical talent as a dedicated member and trumpet player in the South Oakland Concert Band, Tawas Community Band and church orchestras. His love for music was matched by his devotion to faith, demonstrated through his years of active involvement with the Deacon Board and as a past president and treasurer of the Gideon Camps.
An avid sailor, Larry, found serenity on the waters of Lake Huron. His spare time was often spent navigating the waves, reflecting the same steady hand he used to steer the course of his life. As a mentor, he touched so many lives over the years, sharing his wisdom and love with those fortunate enough to cross his path.
Larry's legacy is lovingly carried on by his wife, Susan (nee Frantz), and their children: Beth Anne (Michael) Beattie, Christopher Loren (Patricia) Foltz, and Bradley Clare (Michelle) Foltz. His grandchildren, Kaitlin (Alan) Gibbs, Kyle Foltz, Rachel Foltz, Stone Foltz, Justin Beattie, Lauren Beattie, and Daniel Beattie, will continue to grow under the canopy of his teachings. His great-grandchildren, Lincoln, Hunter, Cody, and Owen, will hear tales of their great-grandfather's wisdom and generosity. Larry also leaves behind his loving sister, Linda Foltz; sister-in-law, Sharon (Michael) Rogers; and brother-in-law, Neil Walling. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clare and Janet Foltz, his in-laws Loren and Beverly Frantz and his sisters-in-law, Sandi Walling and Sherry Johnson.
Larry was a man of integrity, known for his wise counsel, loving nature, and generous heart. His departure from this world leaves a void that will be felt by many, yet his influence will continue to resonate in the lives he touched. Larry was not only a beacon of light in his community but also a steadfast anchor in the lives of his family and friends. He will be profoundly missed and eternally remembered.
