Dawn Bean
July 22, 2016
My name is Dawn Bean, I am Uncle Lutzie's great niece. Julia Deme was my grandmother. She was the oldest of all the siblings with Uncle Lutzie being the baby of the family. Uncle Lutzie use to call me quite often especially in January. His birthday is always one week before mine. I am was born on January 17th, just like Aunt Mary Vassil. So we talked quite a bit in January.
My greatest memory of Uncle Lutzie, was back in 1991. I was 21 that year and wanted to go to Mardi Gras. So I took a plane from Chicago going to New Orleans where he picked me up. I was told my many family members that if I wanted to go to Mardi Gras, that Uncle Lutzie was my man. He knew how to live it up and have a good time. We went 2-3 times that week. He took me to Pat O'Briens, which I still have my glass that contained my Hurricane from that day. I was amazed at everything; how to obtain beads, all the foods and entertainment that went on all hours of the day. He kept me busy that week. I still talk about it, and how wonderful it was. I want to do it again, but this time I have to go alone. I will always remember my time with him and how went out of his way to see that I enjoyed myself.
Another time he surprised me and showed up unannounced at my house in Nebraska. He came there with his motor home and friend, Zola. He came to see his sister (my grandma) Julia. She was so happy to see him. They stayed for a couple days and then he was on his way again, as he liked to travel.
The last time I talked to him, he was in good spirits and at a friends house. He said he would call me back, but never got around to it.
I miss you and love you, Uncle Lutzie!
