It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Betty Jane Ujvari, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Betty Jane passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2023, at the age of 74, leaving behind a legacy of love, warmth, and unwavering devotion. Her loss is deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Born on August 29, 1948, in
Hartford, Connecticut, Betty Jane was the beloved daughter of George and Marion MacKenzie (nee Hanley). Her early years were marked by moves that crisscrossed the northeastern United States, shaping her adaptable and resilient spirit. From
Wethersfield, Connecticut, to
Poughkeepsie, New York,
Orchard Park, New York,
West Seneca, New York,
Wallingford, Connecticut, to
Fort Wayne, Indiana to eventually settling in
Amherst, Ohio. Betty's journey through life was a testament to her ability to embrace change with grace.
In 1966, Betty graduated from Orchard Park High School. Through the years, Betty held various jobs to help the family, most recently working for Anthony Wayne Services in
Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Betty's heart knew no bounds when it came to love and family. She married the love of her life, Stephen Ujvari, and together they built a life filled with joy and togetherness. Their union was blessed with three sons, Stephen J. Ujvari Jr. of
Amherst, OH, Jason Ujvari of
Ypsilanti, MI, and Adam Ujvari of
Amherst, OH, who carry on her legacy of love, kindness, and strength.
A devoted mother, Betty's love extended to her grandchildren: Alexander, Caitlyn, Brianna, and Gabrielle Ujvari. Her nurturing spirit and loving presence enriched their lives and created cherished memories that will endure for generations.
Betty found solace and community in her faith, being a proud member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst. Her hobbies included crocheting. She was also an avid fan of the intellectual challenge presented by watching "Jeopardy," showcasing her lifelong love for learning.
Betty Jane's memory lives on in the hearts of her surviving sisters Anne MacKenzie- Thompson of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada,: Heather Roberts of
Buffalo, NY, and Joan Pauley of Fayetteville, PA. Her life was also touched by profound loss with the passing of her daughter, Robin M. Ujvari, and her parents, George and Marion MacKenzie.
Friends and loved ones are invited to gather to celebrate Betty's life on Saturday, September 9, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, located at 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. A funeral service, officiated by Rev. Father Timothy O'Connor, Pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, will follow the visitation at 1:00 p.m. Family will also receive friends on Saturday, September 23, 2023 from 8:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. at Colonial Memorial Chapels, 3003 South Park Ave.,
Lackawanna, New York followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Basilica, 767 Ridge Road, Buffalo, New York. Betty will be laid to rest in Holy Cross Cemetery, Lackawanna, NY.
