N. Louise (Flowerdew) Arrasmith Obituary
Nancy (Louise) Arrasmith healed her broken heart on January 3rd, 2025 when she left her family on Earth and rejoined her love Cassius Arrasmith in heaven. In true Louise fashion, she was feisty and sharp as a tack until the day she left us. Her surviving family, older sister Phyllis Herbert-Chadwell, youngest son Steve Arrasmith, grandchildren Sara Arrasmith-Kuhl & Rachel (John) Swanson, Nate (Jan) Arrasmith & Seth (Kim) Arrasmith, 9 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren (+2 on the way) said a peaceful goodbye as she reunited with her husband Cash, parents Verna and Felix, siblings Luvern and Janice, son Dan, and great granddaughter Morgan.
On July 12th, 1926, Louises parents Verna Nannie (Briggs) and Felix William Flowerdew went to stay on her grandparents farm, close to the Ainsworth, NE hospital, where Louise was born. A few months later the family went back to their farm in Johnstown, NE where she was raised until Felix passed away the year after she was born due to complications from inhaling chlorine, phosgene, and mustard gas in WWI.
Throughout her young life, her single mom did her best to raise the three kids on the farm before she remarried Lee Firth. Louises life was challenging as a child, which made her strong, mentally and physically. She moved with her mother and siblings into many homes throughout Nebraska and was raised with very little. Her learned strength throughout these experiences was passed down to her sons, teaching them how to live their lives and be grateful for everything they had.
When she was in the 9th grade, she was noticed by the tall, handsome, football player in the grade above her, who paid her 25 admission to the big game and stood by her side for the rest of their schooling. As they grew older and Cash joined the Merchant Marines in WWII, their relationship fizzled out, as many do. But a few years later, while she was working at the variety store, the tall and handsome heartbreaker stopped by her house to pick plums from her familys tree.
It's easy to say the rest is history, but it wouldnt do justice to the incredible life that Louise and Cash shared together. Starting at their empty single room attic apartment with orange crates as cabinets and an outhouse in Nebraska, and ending in
Nampa, ID at their beautiful 4-bedroom house with a 55" flat screen tv surrounded by generations of family members, their love story was an inspiration to anyone who knew them.
Her husband, best friend, and hero for 68 years passed in March of 2016, leaving her to care for her family alone. While the Arrasmith motto is to shove emotions to the side and never admit to the depth of sadness we are experiencing, Louises light dimmed the day he left her, and she patiently waited nearly 9 years to embrace him in her arms again.
During her last decade, she lived with her son Steve and was his companion and confidante when her daughter-in-law Jill passed away in May of 2023. She reclaimed her most motherly duty of caring for her son in his loss and reminding us all how crucial our relationships really were. She attended the games, performances, and graduations of her family, and made every effort to be present in her familys ever-evolving lives.
While we will miss her secret mac-n-cheese and zucchini bread, her hilarious and out of pocket commentary, her intriguing stories about living through the great depression, and fridge stocked with food that probably expired years ago, her family felt the weight of her loss lift off our shoulders and know that her light has been sparked again.
The matriarch of our family is already incredibly missed, but our grief is quenched knowing she and Cash, and their oldest son Dan, are watching over us. Cheering us on through all of lifes experiences, and sharing their overwhelming love, even if not in person. We love you, and thank you for creating our family. Louise, you were our hero, and we will miss your incredibly secret cooking skills until the day we join you.
