I was born on April 28, 1940 at 12:00 noon, just in time for Sunday dinner.
My parents, Frank and Evelyn (Coppola) Cano, christened me Louise Ann but, for the most part, I was LuLu.
We lived on Liberty Street, a section of Southington aptly referred to as "Little Italy". It was a great place to live and grow up in, with lots of family and friends around to keep an eye on you and make sure you didn't get into too much trouble.
Big sister Frances, my favorite brother David and I had the love and attention of a 3-generation household. At dinner time our home was filled with the aroma of good food to be savored and animated conversations to listen in on, in both English and Italian. We never knew money was scarce because we were rich with the closeness of "La Famiglia", the family.
I have no world records of great feats to write about. There were a few awards, not that I changed the world in any way or saved mankind, so why take up space now. My only claim to fame was that, without a doubt, I was the loudest cheerleader on the squad at Southington High School in '56, '57, '58. Oh, so many years ago.
While I married too young, I did find my reason for being in my children. Tracey and Peter (he was always "Kip" to me). You were my greatest joy!! I hope you will always remember how much I loved you and how very proud you made me. Somewhere in my crazy life, I must have done something right to have had such kind and caring children.
In due time Tracey and Kip married and blessed me with my Heaven sent Grand-Girls! Chelsea was the "Sunshine" in my life, Morgan my "Special Angel", Abby was my "Lucky Star" and Katie Claire (de Lune), my "Moon Light". How very happy you made me and my heartbeat was faster whenever we were together. You were my greatest gifts!!
To my dear Friends and you know who you are, whether we shared a meal, a vacation, a long conversation, a game of cards (Bridge, Set Back, Poker. you name it we played it). A round of golf, a tennis match, or we were out bowling; those were the times I truly enjoyed and treasured. Do you know how much each of you meant to me? Life would have been so dull without you there by my side. You were the best friends a friend could ever have!!
To my extended family, my "Daughter" Noelle (Ragali) Fazzone, my "Sister" Becky (Bodine) Cano, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, In-laws, and Out-laws. You were my source of fond memories, of wonderful celebrations spent together. You made the fun that much sweeter!!
Last of all, but of course never least, my Mikey. You were the icing on the cake! The kind of husband, friend, and confidant anyone would have wished for and I'm thankful you were always there for me. You made the later years of my life worth living and it certainly was one exciting roller coaster ride!! Loved you always.
And now the time has come to say Good-Bye.
* Lulu was unable to update her Obituary so we would like to add how thrilled she was when her sunshine Chelsea married Alex Norregaard. Then a few years later they gave her the first Great Grand-Boy Anders! Chelsea would give birth to another son, Silas, two years later. Lulu was excited to have boys in the family!! Katie, the moonbeam, would marry Casey, her high school sweetheart next and move to Florida. Morgan, her angel, became engaged to Kenny Pease in 2023 and are planning a wedding this October.
