Louise (Bocwinski) Fliss, 84, the wife for 65 years of the late Peter Fliss, Sr., passed peacefully into eternal rest on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at Jefferson House in Newington, with her daughter by her side.
Louise was born and raised in New Britain and lived there most of her life until moving to Berlin in 2018. She was the daughter of the late John and Constance (Kopines) Bocwinski. After graduating from high school, Louise worked for the State of CT in the Dairy Division where she met her best friend (to this day) Diane Grasso Griffin. Shortly after that, Louise met the love of her life, Peter, and they were married on April 4, 1959. Louise dedicated most of her life to raising her four children and getting involved with all of their activities from Little League baseball to President of Lincoln School PTO. Louise worked in food services for the school system in New Britain working her way up to Assistant Director at New Britain High School.
Louise was a quiet, sweet woman who loved to be surrounded by her family, whether it was a large family gathering of the whole crew or just the immediate family where she doted over her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also loved her Tuesday lunches with cousins Mary Joan, Marge, Barbara, Nathalie and previously Florence and Marie. Louise was a devout catholic that dedicated many hours to different positions at St. Maurice Church from counting money to teaching CCD. She loved to cook for her family hosting many Sunday dinners where you weren't invited, you were expected. She also was a great baker and cake decorator, creating many beautiful cakes for her family's various celebrations.
Louise leaves behind her three children and their spouses to mourn her loss, Peter and Michelle Fliss, Tom and Mary Fliss and Christine and Rick Olson. Louise was predeceased by her youngest son Andy who is glad to have Mom home. She also leaves behind her eight grandchildren Chris (Lindsey), Nick (Sarah), Alexia, Matthew (Jillian), Justin, Mitchell, Garett and Aiden and her five great grandchildren, who were the love of her life, Carmela, Maverick, William, Dominic and Delilah. They never failed to put a smile on great grammy's face. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, godchildren and cousins to mourn her loss. Louise was predeceased by her sister Rita.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Jefferson House for the loving, compassionate care that they gave to Louise for the short time that they had her and the HHC hospice nurses Debbie and Aneta. They would also like to thank Yanil Gonzalez for the care and love that she gave to Peter and Louise for almost two years.
Visiting hours will be September 5, 2024 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home of Berlin, 111 Chamberlain Hwy., Berlin followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Paul Parish, 485 Alling St., Kensington. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul Food Pantry, 467 Alling St., Kensington, CT 06037 to honor Mom's love of cooking and feeding the crew no matter how large.
