Louise Coles Horton passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025 at the age of 85.
Louise was born on September 29, 1939 in McDonaldville, ID to Herschel and Ada Coles. A few years later, the family moved to Payson, Utah, where Louise graduated from Payson High School, as well as LDS Seminary in May of 1957. After graduation, she moved to Salt Lake City with her sister Loa Jean, and she worked at the Genealogical Society. While working there, Louise met a friend named Diane Winters, and Diane had always dreamed of moving to Alaska. The two of them moved to Anchorage, Alaska where they both worked for the Army at Ft. Richardson. While there, they survived the big Alaskan earthquake of 1964, which was a 9.2 magnitude earthquake.
Later that year when Louise moved back to Utah, she got a job at Hill Air Force Base, where she met her husband, Ron Horton. They were married at an LDS church in Salt Lake City on December 2, 1971 and they moved to Pleasant View in 1972. Louise then gave birth to twins, Mike and Mark in 1974. Three years later, Michele was born and Louise was able to stay home to raise her kids. Soon after that, a friend in the neighborhood asked her to babysit her kids. The word soon got out and Louise ended up babysitting several kids over the next 20+ years. She was so kind and patient and she provided a safe and loving environment for so many children. Several of those kids even came back to visit her later in their lives because they had such fond memories of her and spending time in her home.
Louise was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and had a strong testimony of the gospel, which she shared with her kids and grandkids. She held several callings in the Church and was able to go through the temple. She loved attending the temple and did so regularly.
If you live in the Pleasant View area, you have probably seen Louise out walking in the mornings, as it was always a part of her daily life. She also loved to crochet and donate baby blankets, make scrapbooks and spend time with her grandkids making chocolate chip cookies or sourdough pancakes.
Louise is survived by her husband, Ron Horton, as well as her 3 children: Mike (Jocie) Horton, Mark (Alecia) Horton, Michele (Ryan) Bohling, along with her 8 grandchildren who she loved very much: Jace (Maddy), Rylie (Dom), Tyler, Dylan, Sammie, Alex, Brynn and Elin. She also had a great-granddaughter Jacie, who she was so happy to meet before she passed. She is also survived by her two sisters, Marge and Loa Jean. Louise is preceded in death by her parents Herschel and Ada Coles, as well as her brother Floyd.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the caregivers at the Memory Care unit at The Lodge in North Ogden, as well as the hospice nurses with Refined Hospice, and all others who provided loving care for her.
