Louise S. Hughes, age 86, passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at Spring Mill Senior Living in Phoenixville. Born on July 9, 1939 in Phoenixville, she was a daughter of the late Emily Gertrude (Whitby) and the late Russell W. Showalter. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, George L. Hughes and her sister Grace E. (Showalter) Schafer. Louise was a 1957 graduate of Phoenixville Area High School where she was enjoyed being a majorette in Walter S. Sample, Jr.'s "The Original Dancing Band". She attended Cedar Crest College studying home economics. She was a dedicated homemaker, putting much love and care into packing lunches, preparing thoughtfully planned meals, adding creative touches to birthday and holiday celebrations, and was well-known for her homemade baked goodies. She also held various part-time jobs including Liberty Forge Special Education School, Hickory Springs Kennel, and Colony Flowers. She was actively involved in the Showalter Farm & Dairy business alongside her father and Uncle Frank. She spent many summers dipping ice cream at the family's dairy store. She loved the family's Long Lane Farm, putting many hours into managing the property and taking care of the cows. She was a past member and officer of the Kimberton Fire Company Auxiliary, and always willing to help with serving banquets and other volunteer efforts. She also helped behind-the-scenes with the Kimberton Community Fair such as proofreading the exhibits catalog, counting refreshment tickets, and baking her famous cherry pie for the volunteers. Caring for others was the biggest part of Louise's legacy. She dedicated much of her life to caring for her parents, children, and grandchildren. She had a close group of friends and neighbors who were often the recipient of her thoughtful deeds and kindness. If someone was facing a difficulty or problem, she wanted to help. She took time to remember others with letters, cards and gifts. She kept detailed journals every year, noting appointments, to-do lists, special occasions, and other little but significant memories of everyday life. While her circle seemed small, she will best be remembered for having a huge impact on the lives of others. Surviving are her children Karen H. (Kenneth) Dobson, of Pottstown, Kenneth R. Hughes, of Royersford, and Richard L. (Nadine) Hughes, of Phoenixville. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Jessica (Hughes) Burdsall (John) of Gilbertsville and Gregory Hughes (Kelsey) of West Virginia, and a great-granddaughter Olivia Burdsall. Rescue pets and caring for animals was an important part of Louise's life. Therefore, anyone wishing to honor her memory is encouraged to donate to the Montgomery County SPCA-Perkiomenville at 1059 Sweisford Road, Perkiomenville, PA 18074. Service and interment will be done at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by the Campbell - Ennis - Klotzbach Funeral Home, Inc., Phoenixville.
