Lowell Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home Inc. on Mar. 10, 2026.
Lowell Thomas Smith, son of Joyce Kunz Smith, passed away at his home on Monday, March 9, 2026, of natural causes. He was born in Erie on April 20, 1977, and was a graduate of Titusville High School and Vo-Tech, Class of 1995. He attended the Hiram G. Andrews Center for Food Service and enjoyed his time working in the kitchen at Cross Creek.
Raised on his grandparents' dairy farm - Dolly Run Farm, Lowell enjoyed his years helping on the farm and showing Guernseys - specifically his cow Butter - with the Penn Drake 4-H Club and had the opportunity to travel to a few new states in his teenage years through the Crawford County 4-H Interstate Exchange Club.
He enjoyed making walking sticks and would give one to every Pastor he met. He sold many of them to anyone interested. He especially enjoyed taking branches from the walnut trees at the farm, turning them into walking sticks and gifting those special ones to family. We will all cherish our walking sticks a little bit more now.
In recent years, he would spend his free time walking through the communities of Hydetown and, most recently, Pleasantville, playing Pokémon Go. He would walk and walk when the weather was favorable, otherwise his mom would drive so he could play.
Lowell was an avid reader and had a thirst for knowledge. As a young child he would read through entire encyclopedias and could talk for hours on nearly any subject. He especially enjoyed reading the Bible and had a nearly photographic memory of anything he ever read or heard.
His presence here on Earth will be greatly missed by all who loved him most.
He is survived by his sisters - Jaymie (Cliff) Tavernia of Greenville, Carrie (Doug) Hazelton of Titusville, Brenda (Brett) Zook of Meadville, and Emilie (Thomas) Nicholson of Warren. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins that will miss him dearly.
Lowell never met a cat that he didn't love or make him laugh - he leaves behind his current beloved feline, a Maine Coon named Odin.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents - Paul and Phyllis Kunz; and Henry, Sarah and step-grandmother Grace Smith; and his Aunt Hazel and her husband Bob DeMarco.
Visitation will be held at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home Inc., 303 N. Washington St., Titusville, on Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m., at which time a funeral service will be conducted with Jerome Alsdorf officiating.
Interment will be at Union Cemetery.
