Lucian Murray Meekins Jr., 84, of Norfolk, Virginia, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on May 16, 1941, in Norfolk to Violet Mae Gillikin and Lucian Murray Meekins Sr., Lucian lived a life marked by dedication, service, love, and quiet strength.
Lucian proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force, retiring with the rank of E7. Following his military service, he continued his hardworking legacy as a longshoreman with the International Longshoremen's Association, Local Union 970.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Lucian found his greatest joy in his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Sharon Elizabeth Meekins; his son, David Tallent and wife Alicia, and their daughter Amber; and his daughter, Kellie Swain and husband Roth, and their children Michael Ward, Karson Ward, RJ Swain, and Reese Swain. He also leaves behind a cherished extended family, including sister-in-law Darlene Meekins and her son Gordon Meekins Jr.; brothers-in-law Gary Auld and wife Debbie and their daughter Cheryl, and Terry Auld and wife Beth and their daughters Faith and Stacy. Lucian also leaves behind his four-legged babies, Buttercup and Biscuit.
Lucian was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Billy Meekins, Gordon Meekins Sr., Erma Reynolds, Anne Mitchell, and Jenny Newcomb; his niece Tabitha Meekins; and his beloved daughter, Deanna.
Lucian was a man of many interests. He loved cheering on his Washington Redskins, spending quality time with his grandchildren, and in his earlier years, cooking delicious meals for those he loved. He was a faithful member of Norview United Methodist Church and deeply involved in the Masonic community. His memberships included Norview Masonic Lodge Chapter 113, Eastern Star Norview Chapter 99 & Chesapeake Chapter 52, Royal Arch Norview Chapter, and the Scottish Rite Norview Chapter. He was proud to have served as a Past Patron in the Eastern Star.
Lucian will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to those he loved, his strong work ethic, and his quiet but ever-present support for his family and community.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the dedicated staff of Amedisys Hospice for the kindness, dignity, and comfort they provided to Lucian and his family during this difficult time.
A memorial service to celebrate Lucian's life will be held on Monday, June 23, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Norview Masonic Lodge, located at 1125 Hugo St., Norfolk, VA 23513. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend.
