Lucretia Ann (Ferraro) Sveda, 92 of Southbury, Connecticut, entered peaceful rest on the morning of November 19, 2023.
She was born in Paterson, N.J. to the late John and Alice (Coleman) Ferraro. Lucretia loved and often reminisced about her happy childhood and young adult life surrounded by her 13 Italian aunts and uncles. She attended high school where she was a majorette captain and a basketball star at CYO. After graduation she attended secretarial school and Barbizon Modeling School in New York City.
She fell in love and married Ralph Lee Sveda, her devoted husband of 69 years. She and Ralph raised six children in Wayne, NJ until Ralph's role as a Uniroyal chemist moved them to Southbury, CT in 1972.
Lucretia worked numerous part-time positions in N.J. She found employment at Amos's bakery in Heritage Village Bazaar upon moving to Southbury. Then worked at Escargot and the Sherman House in Woodbury, CT and on many catering jobs in the area. She worked at her daughter's deli then finally before retiring found her favorite position at Southford Medical where she met her dear friends Jane and Doris.
She was an avid reader and had beautiful Palmer Method penmanship which was envied by all. Lucretia will always be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, compassion for everyone and sharp wit. She had a contagious smile and a generous spirit. She loved the ocean and spent 25 years in West Palm Beach Florida with Ralph until relocating back to Southbury to be with her family.
Lucretia was devoted to her family and friends and leaves behind her five loving children, Lucretia Sveda and her partner Janice Eterginio, Donna and her husband Sheldon Smith, her beloved son Mark Sveda, Allison Landfors, and Nanette and her husband, Timothy Bergin. Her grandchildren Madeline, Colin, Timothy, Sawyer, Parker, Thomas, Kane and Brandon as well as her nephew Joseph Steinbach.
Lucretia was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ralph Lee Sveda, her son Ralph Kevin Sveda and daughter-in-law Shelby and grandson Jason, and her sister Betty Ferraro.
Arrangements: A mass will be held on Friday, December 1, 2023, 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Southbury, CT. There will be no calling hours. Chase Parkway Memorial / The Albini Family Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, has been entrusted with handling funeral arrangements. Those planning to attend are asked to meet directly at the Church.
