Steve Sveda, 96, of Hermitage, passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, October 24, 2025, in St. Paul's Sr. Living Center, Greenville, PA.

Mr. Sveda was born January 31, 1929, in West Middlesex, PA, a son of the late Joseph and Helen (Blasko) Sveda. He graduated from West Middlesex High School in 1947 and honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Era.

An experienced and talented welder, Steve was employed by General American Transportation Corp. (GATX), Masury, for more than 25 years. Following retirement, he assisted clients in the woodshop at the Arc of Mercer County.

Steve was a member of Church of the Good Shepherd, West Middlesex.

An avid golfer during his younger years, he also had a lifelong passion for the outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his family on the water at Tionesta and Pymatuning.

His beloved wife of 72 years, Catherine (Giovanelli) Sveda, whom he married April 18, 1953, survives at home.

Steve is survived by four children, Steven Sveda (Giovanna), Flagler Beach, FL, Kim Grace (Paul Janet), Hermitage, Cyndy Mattern (Don), Hermitage, and Lisa Rogers (Brian), Sharpsville, PA; five grandchildren, Jennifer Grace (Nick), Meghan Grace, and Allison Jackson (Desmond), and Malia and Tyler Mattern; three great-grandchildren, Madison, Dominique, and Ryan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by five brothers, John, Joseph, Nick, Mike, and George Sveda; and two sisters, Mary Sveda and Helen Leno.

Calling hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday (10-27-25) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.McGonigleFuneralHomeandCrematory.com.

Funeral service will be 12:30 p.m. Tuesday (10-28-25), in the funeral home, with Rev. Glenn Whitman, officiating.

Military honors will be rendered by the Wheatland AL and West Middlesex VFW Honor Guard.

Interment: St. Michael Byzantine Cemetery, Hermitage.
