Luella Mae Rutan

Luella Mae Rutan, age 87, of Coldwater, formerly of Addison, passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at the home of her daughter Cindy in Centreville, Michigan.
Born on October 25, 1937, in Osseo, Michigan, Luella was the daughter of Peleg and Alta (Burger) Ash. She spent much of her life working in local restaurants and bars throughout the area, where she became a familiar and friendly face to many. Later in her career, she worked at Alson Corporation for 12 years before retiring.
Luella was a member of New Beginnings Community Church in Sturgis, Michigan. She had a passion for bowling and participated in leagues across Hillsdale, Addison, and Litchfield. Her love for plants and flowers, especially roses, brought beauty into her life and surroundings. Luella also enjoyed watching golf and spent many hours crocheting and embroidering. Traveling was another joy of hers, with Hawaii holding a special place in her heart. Above all else, Luella cherished time with her children and grandchildren.
To cherish her memory, Luella leaves two sons, Timothy (Karen) Rutan and Jeffrey (Chris) Rutan; one daughter, Cindy (Pastor Randy) Evans; 13 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. Luella was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Lloyd, Victor, John, Paul, Jim, and Nellie.
The family will receive friends for visitation at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home, Addison on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, from 11:00 am until the funeral service begins at 1:00 pm. Pastor Randy Evans will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset View Cemetery, Jonesville.
