SOMERSET TWP. – Debra L. Shaffer, age 72, of Somerset Twp., passed away at Henry Ford Allegiance in Jackson, on Friday, August 1, 2025. She was born in Jackson to the late Dale and Marilyn (Howard) Mohr. Debra attended Columbia Central Schools. On June 10, 1972, she married James E. Shaffer in Brooklyn, and he preceded her in death on October 16, 2013. Debra held several jobs throughout her life; however, she retired in 2013 from Addison Schools where she worked as a custodian.
Debra was a very kind person, never knowing a stranger and loved to entertain. First and foremost in her life was her family. She loved her children and grandchildren with all her heart. She was also a very patriotic person, and enjoyed listening to Lee Greenwood's God Bless the USA. Debra loved to attend to her flower gardens in her free time, as well as cook for her family. She genuinely enjoyed being outside, in the sun, watching wildlife.
Surviving are her daughters, Sam Davis (Doug Ferris) and Tracie (Robert) Old; grandchildren, Zachary Davis (Andrea Mitchell), Shawn Bingman, and Robert Old; one great-grandchild on the way; and brothers, Mark (Mary) and Kurt (Ronda) Mohr. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Terrie.
Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors for a memorial visitation on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, from 3:00 – 5:00 PM, at the Brown – Van Hemert Funeral Home in Addison. Memorial services will follow at 5:00 PM, also at the funeral home.
