Luella Margaret Shawhan, age 97, passed away on Wednesday, November 26, 2025 at Heritage Assisted Living in Monona, Wisconsin.
Luella was born on September 10, 1928, in Metamora, IL, a daughter of Frank and Catherine S. (Adams) Kiesewetter. She married George "Bob" Shawhan on April 19, 1952 at St. Mary of Lourdes in Metamora, IL. George passed away on January 4, 2003 in
Peoria, IL.
Luella is survived by their children, Joanie Shawhan of Madison, WI, Tim (Rebecca) Shawhan of Springfield, MO, Michael (Linda) Shawhan of Brimfield IL, Jean (Dan) Zbinden of Yorkville, IL, Brian (Kristin) Shawhan of
Peoria, IL, Kate (Tim) Qualls of Madison, WI, and grandchildren, Luke (Meagan) Shawhan, Patrick (Courtney) Shawhan, Olivia (Jonathan) Solomon, Clint (Alexandria) Shawhan, Clay (Katie) Shawhan, Ben Zbinden, Laura Zbinden, John (Angela) Sabol, Thomas (Jamie) Sabol, Amanda (Jake) Smith, Brianna (Martin) Preidt, Jordyn (Matt) Guile and Tyler Shawhan and great-grandchildren, Isaiah Solomon, Beniah Solomon, Roselyn Shawhan, Caroline Shawhan, Hadassah Shawhan, Hosea Shawhan, Hezekiah Shawhan, Hilkiah Shawhan, Evren Shawhan, Haze Shawhan, Iulian Preidt, Emerson East, Ambrose Sabol, and Tracy Smith, and one sister, Marge (Bob) Mason, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George "Bob" Shawhan, one daughter, Tracy Sabol, one great grand-daughter, River Jordan Guile, four brothers, Harold Kiesewetter, Frank Kiesewetter, Herb Kiesewetter and Art Kieswetter, and three sisters, Alice Markiewicz, Alvina Jenn and Laurina Gangloff.
Luella worked as an accounting clerk for SEARS for many years. She was involved with St. Mark's parish activities for over a 50 year period. She received the stewardship award recognizing parishioners for their longevity, service to the parish community faithfulness and Christian witness. Her service included visitation to residents of Headington Oaks and Belwood Nursing Homes, the food pantry, lector at Mass and participating in the church choir. She also served in various office capacities associated with the Legion of Mary. She was a member of the OSF Auxiliary and volunteered in the hospital gift shop.
We wish to thank the staff at Heritage Assisted Living and Agrace Hospice for the wonderful care they gave mom. A special thanks to Emily, Cindy, and Nicole.
Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 5, 2025 at St. Mark's Catholic Church, with a one hour prior visitation. Fr. Robert Lampitt will officiate and burial will follow Mass at St. Mary's Cemetery in West
Peoria, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mark's Catholic Church or Agrace.
