Luis Guillermo "Bill" Pineda Newberry was born on July 25, 1959, to Luis Guillermo Pineda Belloso and Anne Newberry de Pineda in Maracaibo, Venezuela. He spent his early childhood in Maracaibo, coming to the USA during each summer, allowing him to be fluent in English and Spanish. He attended the Colegio Los Maristas in Maracaibo for his elementary years and The Hill School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania for high school, graduating in 1977.
Religion was a very important part of Bill's life. Although raised Roman Catholic, he had a born-again experience with the Seventh-day Adventist church in his late teens. Later, as he was exposed to Asian culture, he devoted himself to the practice of Buddhism. After high school, Bill immersed himself into the work of natural healing, health, agriculture and religion. His work took him to Belize, where he learned German to better communicate with the Menonite farmers. Bill eventually returned to the USA to complete his formal education by attending Andrews University graduating in 1987 with a BS degree in technology education and again in 1989 with an MAT in technology education.
Bill married Aletha Gruzensky in 1986 and they had one daughter, Angela, in 1988. In 1989 they moved near Boulder, Colorado. Bill divorced in 1994.
While in Boulder, he worked in several computer technology companies and took a certificate course in computers at VoTec. He wrote a program to speed up quality control checks for a computer company in town.
With an ongoing interest in health care, Bill became a licenced acupuncturist in 2000. During his acupuncture studies, Bill traveled to China, subsequently learning his fourth language, Mandarin. Bill was a distinguished athlete in several sports, including golf, tennis, table tennis, track and field (200 meter dash school record), squash, ski, and snowboarding. He enjoyed hiking and outdoor living.
Bill died at home in January, 2022. He is survived by his daughter Angela, his two grandchildren Lucy and Lincoln, his mother Anne Newberry, sister Barbara, brothers Federico, Tomas, Daniel, Andres, and many nieces and nephews.
He will be missed.

One of the best classmates one could ever have. He was a great athlete and a genuinely considerate friend. He helped me feel welcomed at the Hill when I was a newbie. So sad for his family to lose him so young.

Very sad to hear about Luis“ passing. I remember him while he was at The Hill School. My dad, Alberto Romero, was a teacher at The Hill and had Luis (along with many of the Latin American students) over to our apartment to give the "boys" a sense of home. I know my Dad (& Mom) will welcome Luis to heaven.

Many thoughts and prayers to Angela and family,
Andres Romero
