Luisa Vargas, 86, former wife of the late Edgar R. Vargas, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at Autumn Lake Healthcare at Cromwell, after a long illness.
Born in Chone, Ecuador, on August 28, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Manuel de Jesus Alvarez and Martha Magdalena Hidalgo and resided in Meriden for 60 years. She attended Catholic Girls School in Riobamba, Ecuador, and graduated from high school. Luisa was employed by Canberra Industries for 38 years and Stop & Shop Supermarket for over 15 years. She retired from Canberra Industries in 2012. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church.
She is survived by her 2 sons, Edgar Vargas and his wife, Danielle Vargas, and Frederick Vargas; and her 2 grandchildren, Natalie Vargas and Alexander Vargas. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews in the United States and Ecuador. Luisa was the last surviving member of her family's eight children, having been preceded in death by all her siblings.
