Luther Lee Hodge, Jr., 82, of New Salem, KY passed away at home on Thursday, October 23, 2025. Born on May 16, 1943 in Cincinnati, OH to the late Luther Hodge, Sr. and Marie Shephard Davis.
Luther Lee was a man of many talents and passions. His unwavering love for his country was evident in his service to the United States Army. As a devoted ROTC Instructor in Letcher County, he shaped the minds and hearts of countless young men and women, instilling in them not just knowledge, but also values of honor, integrity, and service. His commitment to his community extended beyond the classroom as he served as a deputy sheriff, a testament to his tireless dedication to safeguarding those he held dear.
Luther was also a gifted musician, who played the bass guitar in local bands in Texas and later Kentucky. His love for animals, particularly those in need, was evident in his role supporting animals in need in Lincoln County.
Survivors include his loving wife, Betty Teague Hodge of New Salem; three children, Kimberly Marie Wall (Craig) of Danville, KY, David Lee Hodge of Yosemite, KY and Melinda Pearl Schagane (Dennis Brice) of Frankfort, KY; one brother, Ted E. Hodge (Sherri); four grandchildren, Todd Wall (Brandy), Ryan Wall, Kevin Hodge and Kristina Hodge; four step-grandchildren, Stefan Schagane (Amanda), Jessica Schagane, Katlin Schagane and Samantha Woods; three great-grandchildren, Ryder Wall, Hayden Wall and Harlee Wall; four step-great-grandchildren, David Quintana, Amberly Quintana, Caroline Quintana and Juliette Quintana; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Luther Hodge, Sr. and Marie Davis; and one sister, Sondra Lee Hodge.
A one-day service will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford, KY. Visitation will be from 11:30 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville, KY.
