                                                                                            CNA, Mother of nine

WATERBURY - Luz Velez-Torres entered into the gates of Heaven peacefully on Saturday, August 10, 2024, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her family after a long illness. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt and was the widow of Armando Torres.

Luz was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico on May 8, 1957, the daughter of the late Carmen (Suarez) Velez-Ayala and Jorge Velez-Ayala. Luz worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) throughout the Waterbury area. Family was at the center of everything Luz loved and believed in. She was always happiest surrounded by her large family. Luz was exceptional in almost every way but she excelled the most at being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Our family thanks you Mom, for every prayer you uttered for us, for the many sacrifices you made for us, for thousands of hugs you shared with us and the unending love you instilled in all of us. She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know and love her.

Left to honor her memory are her nine children; Carmen Griffin and her husband Marc of Oxford, Armando Torres Jr. and his wife Stephanie of Wolcott, Eliezer Torres of Waterbury Brenda Garcia and her husband Osvaldo of Waterbury, Josue Torres and his wife Dana of Waterbury, Ezequiel Torres and his wife Natasha of Waterbury, Anais Torres and her partner Pedro of Waterbury, Amanda Torres of Conway, SC, and Joana Emerson and her husband Dale of Conway, SC. Luz was blessed with her beloved grandchildren: Marc Jr, Luz Nelly, Devin, Victor, Tyler, Jalissa, Emelia, Ean, Daniel, Jaiden, Aryanna, Nolan, Nathaniel, Julia, Olivia, Jake, Jameson and Gabriel. She also leaves her siblings; Yolanda, Enrique and David Velez all of Puerto Rico and Priscilla Morales of Waterbury.  Luz was predeceased by her brother, Jorge Velez-Ayala and her sister Eugenia Velez Ayala.

As our family mourns the loss of a special wife, mother, grandmother and sister, we are deeply touched by the outpouring of support from family, friends and the community. The considerate and thoughtful care provided by Vitas Hospice Care at Home and their dedicated staff has been a great source of comfort during this difficult time and the family is grateful beyond words can express.

Funeral services for Mrs. Velez-Torres will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at 12 noon at Casey]’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main St Waterbury CT 06705. Burial will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery, Waterbury. Relatives and friends may visit with the Torres family from 11:00 a.m. until the service commences at 12 noon. Loving kindness is always welcome, and it only takes a moment to offer a message of condolence and share a memory or words of comfort with the family and friends of someone who was important to you.
