Lydia Cantu

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Lydia Sosa Cantu, 79, of Victoria, TX on March 28, 2025. She was born on November 27, 1945 in Raymondville, TX to the late Jose Moya-Sosa and Santos Alfaro-Sosa.
Lydia grew up in Raymondville, TX with her parents and 12 siblings. She met Albert, the love of her life and the calm to her storm, when she was just 14 years old. They were later married in 1963 and welcomed their 3 children shortly after. She worked as a switchboard operator for GTE for 26 years before she retired. Being the busybody that she was, she decided that retirement life was not for her and began a 19 year career at The Port of Port Lavaca Point Comfort. She truly enjoyed every friendship she made along the way and if you ever had the pleasure of meeting her, you'd know that she never met a stranger. In her retirement years, she enjoyed traveling, gambling, antique shopping, cooking, and most of all, spending time with her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who will be missed dearly.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Christine Cantu, her siblings, Maria Davila, Josefita Coronado, Juan Sosa, Jose Sosa, Jr, and Gloria Reyes-Garcia.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Albert Cantu. Her children, Danny Cantu (Linda) & Joann Luna (Manuel) all of Victoria, TX. Her siblings: Herminia Davila, Adela Sias, Gilberto Sosa, Noe Sosa, Ricardo Sosa, Tina Villacana, and Brenda Sosa.
One of her greatest joys, by far, were her grandchildren. Her family was blessed to grow with 4 grandchildren, Danielle Luna (Darren), Christina Hessler (Tyler), Gabrielle Salazar (Nicholas), Jared Cantu, and 7 great-grandchildren with one on the way.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at Angel Lucy's Funeral Home in Victoria, TX from 5-8pm with a rosary to be recited at 6pm.
Visitation to resume at 9am on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Angel Lucy's Funeral Home with Liturgy of the Word to begin at 10am. Burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetary.
Pallbearers will be: Jared Cantu, Damen Salinas, Darrik Salinas,
Daylen Salinas, Tyler Hessler, and Darren Salinas.
Honorary Pallbearers are: Kade Cavazos and Nate Salazar.
May Lydia's soul rest in peace, and may the love and light she shared with us continue to shine brightly in our hearts forever.
