Our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, L. Val Anderson, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2025, just days before his 91st birthday. He was born on August 26, 1934, in Millville, Utah, to Lyman Dart Anderson and Loretta Qualman.
Val grew up in Millville and graduated from South Cache High School in Hyrum, Utah. He later served honorably in the United States Army. He served a two-year mission to the Northwestern states mission. Years later he was invited on the Military Honor Flight to Washington D.C. to honor him for his years in service. On April 17, 1959, he married his sweetheart, Marla, in the Logan Utah Temple. Together they shared 65 wonderful years before her passing on August 8, 2024.
As a farmer most of his life, Val found joy in working the land and providing for his family. He lived in Millville, Utah; Burley, Idaho; Malta, Idaho;
Brigham City, Utah and Penrose, Utah where his strong work ethic and dedication to family and faith touched countless lives.
Val was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings, including as Bishop of the Malta Ward, in the Young Men's organization, and as a temple worker alongside his wife in the Ogden and Brigham City Temples. He also served faithfully in the Maple Springs Branch.
Val loved the outdoors and could often be found riding horses in the mountains, hunting, camping, four-wheeling, or tending to his beautiful garden. He delighted in simple joys such as ice cream runs, making homemade ice cream when his children were young, and gathering his family together. He was a "steak and potatoes" man who enjoyed Western movies and John Wayne, and he had a quick wit, a strong sense of humor, and unwavering values.
Above all, Val loved his family. He was happiest attending his grandchildren's events, talking football, basketball and hunting with his grandsons, and cheering on his BYU Cougars. He was proud to share stories of his family with anyone who would listen. His legacy of love, hard work, and faith will live on in the lives of his posterity.
The family gives special thanks to Kathy and Tambi, his daughters-in-law, for their tender care and countless car rides shared with Val.
Val is preceded in death by his wife, parents, and siblings: Doreen, Aloma, Sheldon, Leone, Leon, Sidney and Sylvan. He is survived by his children: Sharolyn (Mike) Briggs of Burley, Idaho; Valene (Don) Robinson of
Brigham City, Utah; Blaine (Kathy) Anderson of Thatcher, Utah; Brett (Connie) Anderson of Malta, Idaho and Clinton (Tambi) Anderson of Willard, Utah; along with 22 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren.
