Charles Lester Smith April 20, 1953 – August 12, 2025 Charles Lester Smith, named affectionately after both his grandfathers, a loving husband and father and grandfather, dedicated educator, and dear friend, passed away on August 12, 2025. Chuck, born on April 20, 1953, in Ogden, UT, dedicated most of his life to nurturing the minds of young learners and touching the hearts of those around him. Chuck resided in Utah, living in Sunset and later settling in Hooper. He stood as a pillar of patience and gentleness, a man who never raised his voice. Chuck was not just a good man; he was a good friend, a person who appreciated the beauty of friendship and treasured every relationship he built over his lifetime. He attended Doxey Elementary, Sunset Elementary, Sunset Jr. High, and graduated from Clearfield High School, and Weber State University. Charles' professional journey as an educator spanned 34 years. He taught 4th and 5th grades, spending a year at Sunset and 33 years at Clinton Elementary. His passion for teaching was evident in the way he loved witnessing the spark of understanding light up in his students' eyes. Beyond his professional endeavors, Charles was an avid reader, writer, and had a fondness for drawing. He also had an interest in family history. Charles was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a missionary in the French-Belgium Mission from 1972 to 1974. He had several callings in the church, Ward Clerk, Ward Executive Secretary, and Stake Clerk. Charles' life was enriched by his beloved wife, Linda Lee Walker Smith, whom he married on August 22, 1975, in the Ogden Temple. They were married for 49 years and 355 days. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Muskrat Springs Ward and neighbors, Dr. Kristie Jarrett and Dr. Tricia Ferrin. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lucile Smith, his brother Scott Jay Smith and niece Rachael Spencer. He is survived by his wife Linda, his children; Michael Scott Smith (Cassi Turner) and Tyson Charles Smith "Eloise", and his siblings; Dean Smith (Cindy) Dale Smith (Betty), Robert Smith (Diana), Sheri Dattilo and Evelyn Woolsey (Wally), and two grandchildren; Anabelle and Alexander. Viewings will be held on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at Muskrat Springs Ward, 5000 South 5900 West, Hooper, UT 84315 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. and Monday, August 18, 2025, from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 18, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. also at the church. Interment will be at the Hooper City Cemetery 5301 S. 6300 W. Hooper UT 84315.
