Lynn Ellen Dillingham, 68, of
Titusville, Florida, went to her heavenly home on September 20, 2023, surrounded by loved ones. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Lynn spent her life "acquiring profound knowledge and proficiency in more than one field. "According to the dictionary, that makes her a renaissance woman. She was a lover of Jesus, a lifelong learner and a witty conversationalist. She had an incredible gift with the written word and could express herself beautifully in prose or poetry. She was a formidable game player-especially bridge, Scrabble, ping-pong and racquetball-and enjoyed golfing, fishing, reading, and music. Not one to just watch, she engaged wholeheartedly in all things.
In the face of extreme health challenges, she endured with grace and an inspiring dependence on God. As an attentive student of all the people she loved, she did not miss opportunities to express her love. Because of this, spending time with Lynn was refreshing and encouraging, without fail. She lived fiercely and loved extravagantly.
Lynn was born on April 18, 1955, to Patricia Anne Burnett (nee Benefiel) and Neil C. Burnett in
Springfield, Ohio. She graduated from McCluer High School in
Florissant, Missouri, in 1973.
Lynn and her family moved to
Titusville, Florida, in 1967 due to her father's career. They then moved back to
Florissant, Missouri, in 1972. Lynn attended school in
Titusville, Florida, in grades 6 through 11. After graduation from high school in Florissant, Lynn spent time in
Clarksville, Tennessee, Seoul, South Korea, Fayetteville, North Carolina,
Merritt Island, Florida, and
Cape Canaveral, Florida, before settling in
Titusville, Florida, in 1982. Lynn married Jack Diesel in 1985. They had two daughters, Jaclyn, and Laura.
Lynn began working at Kennedy Space Center in 1982. She worked in IT under several contracts until 2009, when she transitioned to project management with a military contractor.
Education was always important to Lynn, and she found time amongst her career, her daughters, and her personal life to continue her academic journey in 2005. She went on to receive her associate's degree from Brevard Community College in 2010 and her bachelor's degree from the University of Central Florida in 2016, all while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. She also obtained her Project Management Professional Certification (PMP) in 2008.
Lynn married her husband, Mike Dillingham, in 2015. They were members of the Great Outdoors Community Church and avid golfers. They also enjoyed traveling to see their grandchildren (The Grands Tour) as well as camping.
Lynn was preceded in death by her parents, Neil C. Burnett, and Patricia "Anne" Burnett (Benefiel), her paternal grandparents, Kenneth Leslie Burnett and Esther Burnett (Partlow), as well as her maternal grandparents, Charles E. Benefiel and Bessie Benefiel (Templeton). She is survived by her husband, Mike Dillingham, her daughters, Jaclyn Boals (Travis) and Laura Myatt (Stuart), her grandchildren, Braddock, Brielle, Everett and Holland, her siblings, Garry Burnett, Jane Anne Burnett and Mike Burnett as well as her children happily added by marriage, Maggie Aldridge (Ryan) and Matt Dillingham and grandchildren Easton and Everly.
The service to celebrate the life of Lynn will be held at the Great Outdoors Community Church, 144 Plantation Blvd.,
Titusville, FL 32780, on Saturday, October 7 at 12:30 PM.
Note from her daughters, Jaclyn, and Laura: We would love to hear the stories of our mom's life from all who knew her. If you have time, please share your memories of her, short or long, one or several. We find comfort in learning more about the exceptional woman we were so blessed to be loved so fiercely by.
