Lynn Guttormson, 72, Minot, formerly of Des Lacs, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, December 29, 2022.
Lynn was born on June 19, 1950 in Minot to Leonard and Alice (Raszler) Guttormson. He was raised and educated in rural Des Laces. He attended the Vang Township country school through 4th grade, after which he attended Des Lacs-Burlington Schools, where he graduated in 1969.
After graduation, Lynn briefly attended Minot State College before beginning his working career as a custom harvester. He followed this with a variety of construction jobs before going to work in the coal mines for 10 years. His final career was as a truck driver for various companies until he retired. He made a great many life-long friends throughout the years at his places of employment.
In 1976, Lynn was united in marriage to Phyllis Lagasse. From this union came his two children, Erin and Sara. Family was everything to Lynn. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He was very proud of his kids and their accomplishments and was not afraid to let everyone know.
Lynn was a very sociable person. He loved to visit and talk with anyone and everyone, strangers included. His favorite request was to "sit down and visit", no matter who you were. If he ever called you up on the phone, it was never going to be a quick conversation. Even when calling for everyday business dealings, he would make sure you knew all about him and his family, and he would try to get your life story as well. He was also a very giving person with a big heart. He was always willing to help in all the ways he could. Lynn always looked on the bright side of things and enjoyed being a jokester as well as chatting about the good ol' days.
One of Lynn's favorite pastimes was playing cards. He made sure his daughters learned at a young age to hold their own in a game of cribbage or pinochle. He also enjoyed both watching old westerns as well as reading them. He was also an excellent cook. Desserts were his favorite. One of his favorite activities was driving around the country, whether for work or for personal enjoyment. He'd have a story for you about any place you'd drive by, and he knew how to get everywhere. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Lynn is survived by his daughters, Erin Guttormson, Tucson, AZ, and Sara (Cameron) Schilken, Minot, ND; grandchildren, Vaida, Hazel, and Burke Schilken; sisters, Faye (Pete) Kaliher, Minot and Myra (Sam) Hettich, Bismarck, ND; brothers, Dean (Dustie), Phenix City, AL, Wade (Connie), Sawyer, ND, Joel (Lila), Beulah, ND; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Paul.
