Lynn Ayres Long, devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished grandmother, passed away on October 14, 2024, at the age of 82. Lynn was born on September 18, 1942 in Odessa, TX to Enoch Earl Ayres and Thelma Smith Ayres. She married Aubrey Long on July 31, 1976 and they moved to Lubbock, TX. She was an alumnus of Sul Ross University with a teaching degree.
Lynn loved children. She devoted her life to teaching them in Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and as a teacher in Odessa and Lubbock ISD, and Trinity Christian School. She was a beloved and active member of Trinity Church since 1976. Lynn was known for her hospitality, and especially her desire to pray with, counsel, and feed people. She had a special gift for being a friend to the brokenhearted, always extending the kindness and warmth of Jesus to everyone she met. Her legacy of love and compassion will live on in the hearts of her family and friends and she will be deeply missed.
Lynn is survived by her husband Aubrey, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and devotion. She was a dedicated mother to her son Nathanael Long and his wife Stephanie of Los Angeles, and grandmother to their infant son Aubrey. She is also survived by her dearly loved daughter, Katrina Stevens of Lubbock; and was a proud grandmother to Ashton, Preston, and Brooklyn. Ashton, the eldest grandchild, lovingly named her "Amma", a name that Lynn embraced with great affection. She is also survived by her brother's children, Mike Ayres, Molly Floyd, and Susan Ayres, and their families; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews on both sides of the family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, as well as her brothers Enoch and Bud Ayres, and her first husband, Jerry King. Despite her health battle, Lynn fought to the end to be there with her family, and especially her grandchildren. She was a fighter, and she held on with hope until the day God called her home to be with her Jesus.
Viewing will be held Friday, October 18 at Sanders Funeral Home, 1420 Main St, from 1:00-2:30 pm, with a procession to Peaceful Gardens Cemetery.
A celebration of her life will be held at the chapel at Trinity Church, 7002 Canton Ave, on Saturday October 19 at 10:00 am.
