Mabel Roberts Kirk, age 101½, passed away February 4, 2025, at Hopkins Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Woodburn, Kentucky. Born July 9, 1923, on the family farm in Daviess County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Helen (Gilmore) and Charles W. Roberts. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Clarence "Buddy" Kirk (2017); her in-laws, Opal and O.L. Kirk; two brothers, Chester and Earl Roberts; and a daughter-in-law, Fredda Kirk.
She began her education in a one-room school, and after graduating from Daviess County High School in 1942, Mabel went to work at Ken Rad, a company later acquired by General Electric, making vacuum tubes for radios for wartime communication. After her marriage in 1946 and moving to Bowling Green, she transferred and continued working at General Electric for some years. A homemaker while her children were young, she later worked seasonally at Castner-Knott Department Store and Sears. From April 1968 until her retirement in 1985, she was employed by what was then the Park City Daily News. Mabel enjoyed reading, word search puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and working in her flower beds. She will be remembered by many for her years of writing and sending notes, cards, and letters to family and friends. With her husband, she was a charter member of Eastwood Baptist Church and was a current member of First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Faith Fidelis Sunday School class.
Mabel is survived by her children, Charlie Kirk and Phyllis Clark (Mitchell); grandchildren, Robbin Kirk Emberton (Tony), Andrew Clark, and Adam Clark; great-grandsons, Gannon Minton (Ainsley) and Brayden Minton (fiancé Kaela); and many nieces, nephews, and their families.
Visitation will be Friday, February 7, 2025 from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm at J.C. Kirby and Son Lovers Lane Chapel, followed by the service at 1:00 pm. Burial to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Sunrise Children's Services Miles of Pennies, P.O. Box 1429, Mt. Washington, Kentucky 40047, which Mabel supported for many years through First Baptist Church. The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Michael Collins and the nurses and caregivers at Hopkins Nursing Center for the loving care you provided. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed, and we will always remember the kindness you have shown to her and our family.
