Mabel Lee Paysinger, a beloved matriarch, caregiver, and friend, was called home at the blessed age of 93. Born on November 22, 1931, in Clinton, North Carolina, she was the cherished daughter of Julia Elizabeth Manuel and George Washington Royal, and the granddaughter of Martha and Vance Emanuel.
A proud graduate of William T. Sampson Training High School, Mabel went on to dedicate over three decades to the nursing profession, beginning at just 17 years old and serving faithfully until 1962. Her compassion, skill, and nurturing spirit left lasting impressions on countless lives.
Mabel was twice married, first to the late Grady Monk, and later to the late Joseph R. Paysinger Jr. Together, they raised a loving family. She is preceded in death by her daughters, Martha Monk and Monique Y. Paysinger. Mabel was one of many siblings, and is predeceased by her brothers, Jesse Robert Royal, James C. Royal, John W. Royal, Joseph R. Royal, Salis (Pete) E. Royal, and Paul Royal.
Among the friends she has lost was her best friend, the late Gwendolyn (Gwen) Lashley, who shared a lifelong bond with Mabel built on laughter, loyalty, and unconditional love. Supporting one another through life's joys and challenges, often spending time reminiscing, and caring for one another as only best friends could. Even after Gwen's passing, her spirit remained close to Mabel's heart. Gwen's son, Grady Griffin (Chuckie), who works as a Director EMT, continued to honor that friendship by looking out for Mabel. Whenever an ambulance was called, Chuckie would make sure she was okay, an act of kindness that deeply touched Mabel and her family.
A woman of many joys, Mabel found happiness in the simple pleasures of life with gardening, baking, crocheting, solving puzzles, and playing checkers. Her presence was a blessing to all who knew her, and her memory will live on through the many lives she touched. Her strength, warmth, and unwavering love will forever be cherished.
Mabel is survived by her daughters, Theresa Paysinger-Montoya, Cheryl Paysinger, and Joann Paysinger. Mabel's legacy continues through grandchildren: Stephen E. Paysinger, Jessica J. Dexter-Johnson (Michael Johnson), Marvin E. Montoya, Tyson Eutsey, O'shaniasha Montoya, and Myesha Eutsey; great-grandchildren: Ayanna A. Dexter, Perrieon N. Dexter, Jalisa A. Brown, Allure A. Johnson, Alaya A. Johnson, Zaniyah Eutsey, Skylar Eutsey, King-James Eutsey, Stephen Denard, Steven Denard, Steve Denard, Marvalus Montoya, Mar'vell Montoya, Dominic, Khalil, Zaniya, and Kapri; great-great-grandchildren: Andre A. Gaines, Athena J. Kent, and Adon Dexter; sister, Mammie Doris Royal (Nannie Doris Sr. - Royal); brother-in-law, Ralph Paysinger, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
