Mable Smith Gentry

The family of Mrs. Mable Smith Gentry gratefully acknowledges all expressions of sympathy shown during their time of bereavement and loss. May God continue to richly bless each of you.
Mrs. Mable S. Gentry, age eighty-five, departed this life and entered into eternal rest early Thursday morning, October 10, 2024 at Duke Regional Hospital in Durham, North Carolina. She was born in Person County September 27, 1939 to the late Anthony Smith and Lula Mae Tucker Smith and was a member of Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Aurelius Gentry; children: Tracey F. Williams, Ricky Findley and Tommy Findley; and siblings: Wilson Smith, Leonard Smith, Walter Smith, Anthony Smith, Jr., Pauline Jones and John Lee Hobgood.
She leaves to cherish precious memories, her children: Cathy Ward of Milton, North Carolina and Cynthia Ann Linzsey, Raymond D. Bradsher and Cory Pettiford, all of Roxboro, North Carolina; step-children: Thanetta Gentry of Marietta, Georgia, Patricia Gentry of Baltimore, Maryland and Enoch Gentry (Vera) and Michael Gentry (Lauryetta), Carr Taborn (Sandra), Charles Findley (Jessica), Benjamin Taborn (Kim) and Corey Bailey, all of Roxboro, North Carolina; eighteen grandchildren; numerous great- and great-great grandchildren; siblings: William McClairy of Durham, North Carolina, Shirley Paylor (Tezell) and Ellen Jones, both of Roxboro and Elizabeth Hughes, also of Durham; special friends, Larry and Linda Downey of Oxford, North Carolina and Rose Thorpe, neighbor and caretaker, also of Roxboro; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at 2:00pm at the Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 1851 Cedar Grove Road, Roxboro, North Carolina 27574, with the Reverend Marvin Jones, Pastor, providing the eulogy and the Reverend Dwight Wilkerson, Pastor at Dan River Bethel Baptist Church in South Boston, Virginia, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday at Cunningham and Nelson Funeral Home from 1:00pm to 6:00pm with the family present during the last hour from 5:00pm to 6:00pm. Her body will lie in state Tuesday at the church from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, one hour prior to the service.
