AUSTINTOWN - Maddalena "Lena" Lillo, 98, passed away peacefully Friday morning, March 7, 2025, at Victoria House in Austintown, surrounded by her loving family.
Maddalena was born March 1, 1927, in Montelongo, Italy, a daughter of the late Michael Brunetti and Antoinette Ferreli Brunetti. In 1954, Lena courageously left her homeland and immigrated to the United States, settling on Youngstown's west side, where she built a beautiful life rooted in family, faith, and tradition.
A devoted homemaker, Lena found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an exceptional cook and baker, known for her delicious Italian dishes that became the centerpiece of many cherished family gatherings. An avid gardener, Lena's yard was always in bloom, and she found solace in the company of the birds that visited her garden.
Mrs. Lillo was a member of St. Brendan Church.
As a young woman, she shared a special bond with her dear friend and neighbor, Kitty Palko, with whom she exchanged gardening tips and recipes over the years. Lena was also a talented and self-taught knitter and crocheter, gifting countless afghans, hats, mittens, and sweaters to family and friends - each piece a testament to her love and creativity.
Lena is survived by her three children, Adele Dolan of Austintown, D. Marie "Daisy" Lillo of Austintown, and Nicholas (Terri) Lillo of Indianapolis, Indiana; three grandchildren, Jessica Dolan of Pittsburgh, and Kyle and Ryan Dailey of Indianapolis; two sisters, Celia Sian and Bellsina Lombardi, both of Montreal, Quebec, Canada along with many nieces and nephews and extended family members.
Her husband of 48 years, Fiore Carmen Lillo, whom she married December 20, 1945, died December 17, 1993.She was also preceded in death by her brother, Ralph Brunetti, and her sister, Maria Brunetti.
Family and friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at Kinnick Funeral Home 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown, where a funeral service will take place at 1 p.m.
Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown, where Lena will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Victoria House, Sanctuary Hospice, especially Lena's nurse, April, and her aide, Samantha, for their compassionate care, kindness, unrelenting patience and unwavering support.
