Maida Kelly

Maida L. Kelly of Falmouth, MA passed away on Wednesday, August 13th. She was 95 years old.

A lifelong Massachusetts resident, Maida was born in Cambridge in 1930 to parents William Riley and Mary Murphy. A devoted Catholic her whole life, Maida attended St John's Catholic School in Boston from Elementary through High school, where she formed a group of lifelong friends who styled themselves the "LD's" - the "Living Dolls."

Following her graduation she attended Chandler Secretarial School, and shortly after began a longtime career as a Business Office Manager of the New England Telephone Company. She also met her husband James at the Telephone company. They married in 1953 and remained married until he died in 1984.

She leaves behind three children, William Kelly and his wife Patricia, Maida Kelly, and Steven Kelly and his wife Diane. She also leaves behind 6 grandchildren: Christopher and his wife Sarah, Peter, Griffin, Aidan, Kaitlyn, and Kyle; as well as three great grandchildren: Graham, Anna, and Caleb.

Maida Kelly was known to all as a bountiful source of joy and optimism. A highly social person with deep connections to the Falmouth community, she served as a greeter at Saint Elizabeth Seton, as treasurer for the Saint Elizabeth Seton Guild, and volunteered with the Good Samaritans and The Society of St. Vincent de Paul for decades. She could regularly be found at the College Light Opera, various plays and concerts in Falmouth, or on the beach for cocktails at sunset.

Everyone who knew her (even those who didn't meet her until her later years as a resident of Atria Assisted Living) would invariably hear her most common quotes: "We are so lucky" and "Life is good".

Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 19, 2025, from 4pm to 7pm at Chapman Funerals and Cremations, 584 West Falmouth Hwy, West Falmouth, MA. Mass will be held at 11am on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Seton, 481 Quaker Rd, North Falmouth, MA with burial to follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Avenue, Bourne, MA.
