Joseph W. Lucas, Jr., 87, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

A devoted father, grandfather, and friend, Joe was known for his generous spirit, larger-than-life personality, and a deep love for his family.

Born on December 17, 1937, in Brighton, MA, to Joseph and Grace Lucas, Joe was the eldest of two children. He shared a close bond with his younger sister, Ann, who predeceased him.

Joe attended Saint Columbkille's School in Brighton before graduating from Boston College in 1959. At BC, Joe was deeply involved in campus life, forming friendships that would last a lifetime. As Secretary of his class, he worked tirelessly to maintain connections with his fellow alumni, organizing reunions and events that kept the bond among his classmates strong. His time at Boston College fostered a lifelong love for BC sports, particularly football and hockey, and his passion for Boston College and its community remained unwavering throughout his life. Joe was also a loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.

In his early twenties, Joe met Mary Ann, the love of his life. They married in 1964 and shared 54 beautiful years together before her passing in 2018. They raised three children, Mike, Sue, and Maureen, in the fun-loving neighborhood of Clarkson Drive in Walpole, MA. Joe cherished his time spent with his family, whether they were enjoying the ocean in Falmouth, MA, or relaxing in Naples, FL.

Joe had a successful career in sales, working for many years alongside his business partner, John Lynch, at JJ Lynch Company, where they sold roofing materials. His outgoing personality made him well-suited for this career, where he formed lasting relationships.

Joe was also deeply devoted to his children-in-law: Valerie Lucas, Chris Egan, and Jim Gorman. But his greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren: Michele Lederman and her husband, Robbie, Benjamin Lucas, Alexandre Lucas, Abigail Egan, Madeline Egan, Meghan Egan, Kaleigh Egan, Ryan Gorman, and Nicole Gorman. Nothing brought Joe more happiness than being surrounded by his family. An active and involved father, Joe never missed a sporting event for any of his children, often tailgating with friends and family at BC football games. Joe spent summers in Falmouth, continuing the tradition with his family for years to come.

In his final months, Joe received wonderful care at Atria Woodbriar Park in Falmouth, MA. The staff at Atria formed close, personal relationships with Joe and his family, providing exceptional care and support that brought great comfort to them during this difficult time. Their kindness and dedication made a significant difference in Joe's final months.

Visitation will take place on Monday, August 18th from 5 – 8 p.m. at Chapman Funerals & Cremations, 584 West Falmouth Highway, West Falmouth. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 19th at 10 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 481 Quaker Road, North Falmouth. Burial will follow at North Falmouth Cemetery.

Joe's legacy of love, friendship, and dedication to his family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
