Mamie Lee Haythorne was born August 12, 1947 to Robert and Marie Woods in a small town near Charleston, Mississippi. She was the youngest of 3 children. She spent her teenage years in Charleston, until the family relocated to Toledo, Ohio in 1967.
Mamie accepted Christ at an early age. Starting very early in life, until her transition, Mamie's spiritual service included being a choir member, on the Mother's Board and the Usher Board. In Toledo, Mamie worshipped at Warren AME Church along with her family. She later worshipped at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church where she was a choir member for approximately 10 years. Her most recent membership was at Mt. Zion Christ Holiness USA for the last 20 years, where she served as a Mother of the church.
Mamie graduated from Scott High School in Toledo, Ohio. In 1974, she married Peter Haythorne and divorced soon after. She met Barry Sengail, the love of her life, at Warren AME. For 31 years, Mamie was employed at Johns Manville, where she retired from in good standing.
Family was very important to Mamie. She wanted her family to have the best in life and she did all that she could to ensure that they did. Mamie's main hobby was her grandchildren. However, she also had a love for reading books, ordering items from the Internet, traveling, word searches and caring for her beautiful plants. Many people did not know Mamie was very athletic. In her earlier years, she played softball and was captain of the softball team. She was also an avid bowler and played on the Warren AME Bowling League. Her secret hobby, that she did not talk much about, was keeping her vehicle clean.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Robert and Marie Woods, brother, Eddie Woods, sister, Annie Mae Rhodes, her love, Barry Sengail and her good friend, Loretta Waddell.
She leaves to mourn: her loving sons, Anthony, Stanley and Javon (Fredda), sister-in-law, Joan Woods, nephew Anthony Woods, Sr. (Audra), nieces: Kim Dada, DeShondia Rhodes Walker (Edmund), Ingrid and Camille Woods. The eldest grandchildren, Tatriona and Stanley Lavelle Haythorne, Jr., 2 special loves Jai Marie and Joy, along with a host of other grandchildren and great grandchildren, extended family and friends also mourn her.
