Dr. Manuel B. Martinez, M.D., 79, of Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2025, at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois. Born on March 28, 1946, to Antonio Martinez and Maria Burciaga Martinez, Manuel devoted his life to medicine, education, and the wellbeing of children. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a member of Phi Delta Kai Fraternity, and went on to receive his medical degree from the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara in 1978. He completed his pediatric residency at Cook County Health and Hospitals System in 1986. Dr. Martinez served as a pediatrician in Chicago’s Pilsen community for 47 years, caring for tens of thousands of patients across four generations. His gentle approach, steadfast dedication, and compassion made him a beloved figure to families throughout the city. He was affiliated with Mount Sinai, Saint Anthony, and Norwegian American Hospitals, where he served as an attending physician and mentor to many young doctors. Beyond medicine, Dr. Martinez found joy in continuous learning, tending his garden, and staying active through racquetball and golf. His curiosity, humor, and passion for life inspired all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife, Veronica V. Martinez; his son, Anthony E. Martinez; his daughter, Veronica M. Gerst; his son-in-law, William S. Gerst; and his cherished granddaughters, Alysiana M. Martinez and Gisella B. Martinez. He is also survived by his mother, Maria Burciaga Martinez, and was preceded in death by his father, Antonio Martinez. Details regarding memorial services will be provided by the family at a later date. Dr. Martinez often told his patients, students, and family:

“You can be whatever you put your mind to.”

His wisdom, kindness, and lifelong devotion to helping others will continue to guide and inspire all who were fortunate to know him.
