My little brother Marc was a fighter from the very beginning. Born
prematurely, weighing just 3 pounds 8 ounces, he spent the first three
months of his life in the hospital. Even then, he showed the resilience
and strength that would define him throughout his life. When he finally
came home, our family was overjoyed. I remember running home from
school just to see him. Being 13 years younger than Paul and 11 years
younger than me, he became the baby of the family, bringing so much
joy and light to our lives. His arrival transformed our family in the best
way, creating a bond that only grew stronger over time.
Growing up in College Point, Queens, Marc was the center of our family.
Our dad took him everywhere, even riding through the neighborhood
with Marc on the back of his bicycle. Our mom was deeply involved in
his life, from volunteering with the PTA to supporting his passions. Marc
developed a love for skateboarding as a teenager. That passion for
skateboarding stayed with him into adulthood, just one example of his
enthusiasm for life.
As the years went on, our family moved to different states, Marc and our
parents to Florida, Paul to California and I in New York-but the distance
never weakened our bond. We remained as close as ever, visiting one
another whenever we could. Those visits were filled with love, laughter,
and the kind of connection that only family can bring.
Marc had a compassionate heart that touched everyone who knew him.
He had a soft spot for the homeless and would often buy food or even
shoes for those in need. For a time, he volunteered at a local animal
shelter and a wildlife sanctuary, reflecting his love for animals. He had a
fondness for a few bull dogs, adored them so much he gave them
nicknames that stuck. Most recently, he adopted a kitten who adored
him, following him everywhere and insisting on being by his side-even
though Marc suffered from allergies.
Marc's playful, quirky side was equally memorable. He loved wrestling
since childhood, enjoyed playing chess in local parks, and recently
discovered a passion for golf, playing enthusiastically several times a
week. He also had a tight-knit group of friends who knew and
appreciated his big heart. To "his people," Marc wasn't just a friend-he
was family.
Our family was so proud when Marc became a firefighter. He embodied
bravery, compassion, and the desire to help others-qualities that made
him perfect for such a noble profession.
Marc's life, though far too short, was filled with kindness, love, and
unforgettable moments. He made an impact on everyone he met, and
our family will carry his light and love with us always.
Enjoy the beautiful golf courses in heaven, Mookie Moo. You will forever
be loved, cherished, and missed beyond measure.
We Love you!
Mom, Dad, Paul and Laura
