Marcel Dalverny Obituary

Marcel Paul Dalverny led a very interesting life. Most of the time, he lived in Pennsylvania or Florida. He learned the basics of barbering from his dad. After high school, he attended the Electronics Institute. For a few years, he spent time on ships and boats courtesy of his 1966 enlistment in the U.S. Navy - cruising along the east coast (USS Northampton - a "floating White House" command cruiser); sailing along the west coast and crossing the Pacific aboard destroyers and destroyer escorts; doing patrols along the Vietnamese coast. After spending some rehabilitation time in Japan and Washington State following an accidental knee injury on a boat in Danang harbor, he was returned to the eastern Pacific. Subsequent to his honorable discharge, he also spent time in the air flying mostly over southwestern Pa piloting his single-engine Piper Cherokee airplane. There were inter-airport flights to move cargo or deliver customers. Occasionally, there were sightseeing flights for relatives and friends. He was a certified instructor so he taught students how to fly to earn their licenses. Before he moved to Florida, he had a full-time job at one of the PLCB's stores in Washington. Down south, he worked for Cats magazine; co-managed at a Wendy's and at a Quincy's restaurant at different times; delivered mail for the USPS; was a licensed real estate agent; owned and operated a commercial business services company; was employed by several security companies; was a custodian at a local hospital and also for a Volusia County elementary school where he became the union steward. When Marcel died in AdventHealth Daytona Beach hospital from the effects of a massive heart attack on Sunday, December 24, 2023, he had been a longtime resident of nearby Ormond Beach, FL. He was born on June 27, 1946, in Washington Hospital soon after his twin sister Marcella. They were the younger children of the late Louis and Marguerite Deliere Dalverny. After living in Washington for a few years, the family moved to Burgettstown. Marcel was a 1965 academic course graduate of the new Union High School (he and some buddies helped save some files, etc., when the old school was burning). He played football and was in the marching band and had attended both Burgettstown and Raccoon grade schools. He is survived by his brother Louis Eugene Dalverny and wife Nancy of Monroeville and his twin sister Marcella Marguerite Dalverny of Burgettstown. During his 77 and a half years of life, Marcel affected many persons with his positive attitude and actions. That is his memorable legacy. Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 4, 2024, in Slater Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc. of Burgettstown, 73 Highland Avenue, Burgettstown, PA 15021. Interment will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 5, 2023, in Robinson Run Cemetery (up the hill from Sturgeon, PA). In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity.

I met Scott at tbe NAVAL ACADEMY where I was transferred after leaving the USS NORTHAMPTON...I had no idea we both served on the 'Grey Ghost of Narragansett Bay' at the same time. He took me around the base to check in on my first day...he was driving a little MG convertible whose doors didn't open...easy climb though...sorry to hear of his passing...he once visited me in my hometown of Tiltonsville in Ohio...good shipmate/friend

One of my dearest Florida friends, I´m from PA. , Marcel will be truly missed by me. Oh the many hours we spent talking when I was visiting my sister Mary Temarantz who lived 2 houses down the street from him. We would always eat at Steak n Shake and he´d always let me use his vehicle to go shopping. What a great guy who I will greatly miss on my Florida trips. RIP MY FRIEND. XOXO

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Marcel. When my husband David and I moved to Ormond in 1984 Marcel was our first neighbor and friend. He was always there to help when needed. We both loved the abandoned cats in the neighborhood and made sure they had food and water. The stories he told about his experiences in life were facinating. He will be greatly missed. Marcella please call me when you have the time. Mary T.

My sincere condolences to the family of Marcel. Marcel and I graduated the same year from Union High School, which was probably the last time I saw him. He certainly lead a very active, interesting, versatile life. I thank him for his wonderful service to our country. I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

To say that Marcel had an interesting life is quite the understatement. Truly a kind, decent person with a great sense of humor. He helped me earn my pilot's license, and for that I am grateful. My sympathies to all of you.
