Marcella Dalverny Obituary

Marcella Marguerite Dalverny died peacefully Wednesday, April 10, 2024, after prolonged illnesses including cancer. She had considerate medical care from personnel at Weirton Medical Center/Select Specialty Hospital, Carriage Inn of Steubenville, and SouthernCare Hospice. Marcella was the elder of twins born June 27, 1946, in Washington Hospital, Washington to parents Marguerite Deliere Dalverny and Louis Dalverny. Marcella grew up in Burgettstown and Raccoon, attending the elementary schools there and Union and Burgettstown high schools (Class of 1964). During her high school academic course years, she was a member of the marching band and one of the few students to study both French and Spanish. She followed her mom to become a school teacher by graduating from California State College with Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Mathematics Education. She taught various mathematics courses in Burgettstown High School for more than 30 years. During retirement, she also tutored students. She enjoyed traveling in the U.S., often to mathematics conventions with the company of her parents and brother, Marcel. She also spent months in France to visit with cousins and to investigate family heritage information. During one election period, she was a candidate for the position of mayor of Burgettstown. For more than 50 years, she was a member of the Martha V. Paul Chapter No. 404, Order of the Eastern Star during which she achieved Past Matron Status. She is survived by her brother, Eugene Dalverny and wife Nancy of Monroeville; and cousins in Kansas and California. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, April 13, in Slater Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc. of Burgettstown, 73 Highland Avenue, Burgettstown, PA 15021, where an Order of Eastern Star service will be held Saturday evening at 7 p.m. Interment will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, in Robinson Run Cemetery. I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Marcella. I got to know her when she would visit her brother Marcel in Florida. We had a lot of laughs and she was always so kind.

Marcella was a very bright, capable, and dedicated teacher who I had the pleasure
of working with, and being friends with! It is with sadness, that I write this.
With Sincere Sympathy to her family. Love, Sue Schott
