Funeral service for Marcella Aas age 100, formerly from Sisseton, South Dakota will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. at Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton SD with Rev. Josh Knudsen officiating. Organist will be Michelle Greseth and soloist will be Pat Schubert. Pall Bearers will be Marcella's grandchildren Corey Aas, Manndie Aas, Thomas Aas, Adam Aas, Jamey Aas, Charleton Reyes and Benjamin Reyes. Interment will be in Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton. South Dakota. There will be visitation on Monday, August 11, 2025, at Cahill Funeral Chapel from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 PM. The Cahill Funeral Chapel oversees funeral arrangements. Marcella Ann Cooper was born April 19, 1925, in Drywood Lake Township near Sisseton South Dakota to Chester and Alpha (Hollen) Cooper. She was Baptized and confirmed at Goodwill Lutheran Church, Sisseton South Dakota and went to Drywood Lake #1 through eighth grade. She graduated from Sisseton High School in 1943 and attended Northern state teachers' college in Aberdeen and taught rural schools in Roberts County. During WW2 she worked at Boeing in Seattle Washington. On October 3rd, 1948, she married Arthur Aas at Bethany Church Parsonage in New Effington South Dakota. They lived and farmed east of New Effington until retiring in 1982 and moving to Sisseton. Marcella was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in New Effington where she taught Sunday school and was active in Faith Lutheran Church Women. After they moved to Sisseton, she became a member of Grace Lutheran Church and enjoyed Quilting there. Arthur passed away October 21, 1996, and then Marcella moved to Archer Apartments where she lived for 22 years before moving to The Jard Apartments. She later moved to Edgewood Assisted Living where she enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and playing Pokeno, 654, and bingo. She spent her final months at Jenkins Living Center in Watertown South Dakota. She passed away on August 7, 2025. Marcella is survived by one half-brother Andrew (Elaine) Thurston and Sister-in-law Joyce Thurston and Sister-in-law Joyce Aas. Her four children are Dianne Reyes of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Dennis (Renee) Aas of Watertown, South Dakota, Rodney Aas of Browns Valley, Minnesota and Arlen (Kari) Aas of Stewart, Minnesota. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Corey (Maggie) Aas, Manndie (Nick S.) Aas, Adam Aas (Aubrey Jelsma), Thomas Aas, Jamey (Kim) Aas, Charleton (Susana) Reyes, Benjamin (Aleyah) Reyes. Her great grandchildren are Cooper Aas, Everett Aas, Paisley Aas, Adelynn Aas, Amelia Aas, Lola Aas, Maricella Reyes and Liliana Reyes. She was also blessed with one step grandson Robert (Heather) Hansen; seven step great grandchildren Grace Einrem, Alexia Whitley, Isabella (Tyler Streeter) Jelsma, Paige Hansen, Nash Hansen, Gehrig Hansen and Chase Hansen. She also had a blessing of one great great grandchild Maverick Streeter. Marcella was preceded in death by her husband, parents, stepfather Ralph Thurston; brother and sister-in-law Wayne (BUD) and Vivian Cooper, sister and brother-in-law Lucille and Francis George, half-brother Allan Thurston, nieces and nephews, son-in-law Candido Reyes and one-year old great grandchild Kylie Raelyn Aas. The Family is deeply appreciative of the compassionate care by Dr. Stanley Gallagher and also, appreciative of the staff of Edgewood Assisted Living in Sisseton, South Dakota and Jenkins Living Center and Prairie Lakes Hospice of Watertown, South Dakota. The family requests any memorials be directed to the Sisseton Cemetery Association.
