Topeka - Marcella Gladys Nightengale, 102, surrounded by her loved ones, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2024 at Rolling Hill Assisted Living Center in Topeka, Kansas. She was born on October 10, 1921 at Pawnee County, Kansas the daughter of Henry and Minnie (Vietz) Ideker.
She married Ewald (E.J.) Nightengale on September 3, 1941. He preceded her in death on November 2, 2007. Together in Hodgeman County, Kansas, they established their family farm and raised their five children.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dodge City, Kansas.
She is survived by her children Laurin Nightengale of Topeka, Kansas; Arlin Nightengale and wife Sharon Kamphaus of Topeka, Kansas; Carol Crawford and husband Mike of Lincoln, Nebraska and Bonnie Rasmussen and husband Galen of Camas, Washington. She is also survived by 13 Grandchildren; 17 Great Grandchildren and 4 Great Great Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son Jay Dillin Nightengale, one daughter-in-law Roxy Nightengale and two grandsons Brian and Zachary Nightengale.
Memorial service will be held at Carbondale Community United Church of Christ, on Tuesday October 1, 2024 at 10:30 AM with Pastor Dee Moore presiding. Graveside service will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024 at 10:30 AM at St. Michaels Cemetery in rural Hodgeman County, Kansas. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel in Dodge City, Kansas on Friday, October 4, 2024 from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM. Memorials are suggested to Interim Hospice, 1251 SW Arrowhead Road, Ste 103 Topeka, Kansa 66604. Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
