Marcene Phillips Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Biereley-Hale Funeral Home, Inc. - Madisonville on Aug. 2, 2024.
Marcene Phillips, age 91, of Madisonville, passed away 12:05 P.M. Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at Wood Presbyterian Home.
Marcene was preceded in death by loving husband of 60 years – Hoyt Phillips, son Danny Phillips, infant granddaughter, Lori Caroline Pennington, parents James (Jim) and Lydia Crowder Mullins, sister Sylvia Jeraldine (Jerri) Bryant Moses, brothers Vernon and Wayne Mullins, and special friend Judy Lee. Survivors include her daughter Bobbie Phillips Pennington, son and daughter-in-law Matt and Jennifer Phillips, Grandchildren: Andy and Renee Pennington, Marcy Pennington, Caroline and Adam (Peach) Gillem, Will and Kari, Anna and Josh Phillips, and Marley Lynn. Great-grandchildren: Dane, Dax, Demi, Lottie, Penny, Kaylen, and Blake, Special in laws, Virginia Mullins and Jim Moses, Special friend, Bonnie Estes.
Marcene began her education at Big Creek School. She was able to begin Madisonville High School at the early age of 11. Marcene graduated high school in 1948 at the age of 15. Her first job was behind the counter at Stickley Drugs in the soda shop. There she met Hoyt. They married in 1951 and remained bonded tightly in love for the next 60 years.
Marcene had a very successful career in many different areas: from banking, law offices, and a civil service position with the Farmers Home Administration. After retirement from FHA, she worked at Citizen's National Bank and obtained her real estate license. Her strong faith and love of God was first, but family came next. Marcene was a stalwart member of Big Creek Baptist Church for the first 48 years of her life and then First Baptist Church of Madisonville for the remaining 43 years. She leaves a legacy of love, hope, and peace to all those having the privilege of knowing her. She will be missed by her loved ones, but assuredly she rests in heavenly peace.
A special thanks to the staff at Wood Presbyterian Home, particularly Angie Knox and Debbie Wattenbarger. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Big Creek Cemetery Fund or First Baptist of Madisonville Food Pantry.
Funeral 3 P.M. Monday, Biereley-Hale Chapel, Dr. Lon Shoopman officiating. Interment Sunset Cemetery, Rev. Robert D. Moore officiating. Family will receive friends 1:30-3 P.M. Monday at Biereley-Hale Funeral Home, Madisonville.
