David "Junior" Phillips

David Thomas (Junior) Phillips, 94, of Midway, Kentucky passed away on Monday, February 9, 2026. He was preceded in death by his wife Jewell Deane Mitchell Phillips and parents David Franklin Phillips and Rae Bird Sutton Phillips.

Born in Woodford County on October 4, 1931, Junior was a proud member and veteran of the U.S. Army, and served in the Korean War. He was known throughout Woodford County, having been a jack of all trades and a beloved friend to all who knew him. Junior loved anything that moved fast, especially boats and motorcycles. Former owner of the Midway Tavern, he was also a prolific tobacco farmer, mechanic, carpenter, and enjoyed working in his body shop, drag racing and flying his plane in his free time. He was kind and caring and would give you the shirt off of his back if necessary.

He is survived by his sons, David Tilden (Judy Hockensmith) Phillips and Kerry Lee Phillips, his sister, Patricia Foust, niece Debbie Foust (sons Nicholas and Nathaniel), nephew Michael Foust (daughters Angel, Emma, and son Christopher) , and several cousins in and around Woodford County.

Visitation will be Friday, February 13 from 5-8 pm at Blackburn and Ward funeral home in Versailles. Funeral service will be Saturday, February 14 at 11 am at the Midway Cemetery.
